A manager once told me she'd worked alongside someone for three years before she learned he stayed late every Friday — not because of deadlines, but because Friday evenings at home were hard after his divorce.

She had no idea.

Neither did anyone else on the team.

We spend more waking hours with our colleagues than almost anyone in our lives — and still, we can be strangers to each other.
