Absolutely killed his first day on a 5.5 in a 5g30mph, shifty, south wind kinda day. He has decades of kiting experience and wind knowledge, so it was no surprise that a 1 min explanation was all he needed!

Ice scouting 12/28

North canyon ferry still open! Still holding out hope for black snowless ice very soon!

Clarks bay: ~2” smooth ice with 1” snow. Nice skating just unnerving when it makes noise and you can’t see how the ice is reacting.

Ice season is open! It was a good day flying around some islands with 2-3” of ice and 30mph winds on pond 3. The deep areas weren’t quite ready. Pretty obvious where the boundary was by the satellite image. Glad to be back at it! Wanna learn? Ask me how!

Lake Helena this afternoon. As much as we wish it was colder we’re glad to see the first low quality freeze got a reset! Hoping it reforms in the next 2-3 days so we can start off the season right! 🙏🙏

Ice watch 2021 is finally upon us! Early season last year had us itching to get out in November but it looks like we will get some colder weather starting Sunday! LET THE ICE SEASON BEGIN!

Searching for winter like…

Wet ice on lake Helena today. We had a quick front pass though this afternoon on an otherwise 50 degree and windless day in the valley. I just had to take advantage of it. Ice was surprisingly hard and fast. Still 6” in most spots but some open water is appearing. Let’s hope for a re-freeze and some late season black ice!!

Couldn’t decide on b&w or color so here’s both! More days like this to come but the end of ice season is near. Send a message if you want to grab a wing for a day. When skates start digging in, changing over to skis is key! Kitewing 5.5 was perfect for the conditions!
