For Chubby Plumpkins:
She wore midnight like it was tailored,
iridescent in the light,
feathers catching a brilliant shimmer
as if she carried her own atmosphere.
Chubby Plumpkins.
Name: charming.
Reputation: formidable.
Matriarch of many flocks—
then just her and her BFF, Muffy,
ruling side by side
like they had drawn the map themselves.
Then, just Chubby,
holding the whole place together
with attitude and a highly effective glare.
And finally, the five—
a last flock, gifted and green.
She trained them well,
tolerated them…selectively,
and made it clear who was Head Hen.
She knocked on the Refectory doors
with the confident peck, peck, peck
of someone who had never once been ignored.
Guests adored her.
Cookies feared her.
Picnic tables were simply
elevated opportunities.
She outlasted fires, foxes, coyotes, and dogs—
a survival record that reads less like luck
and more like strategy.
Seven, maybe eight years?
Steady, unapologetic rule.
And now, things feel…slightly less in order.
Legends don’t die, they become part of the story.
And let’s be honest:
we’re all just doing our best to run things
half as well as she did.
❤️💔
RIP Chubby. You were well-loved.
Sun, color, and a joy in the air!
Tie-dye drying in the breeze, dibble in the pool, hikes that turn into adventures, and friends that stick long after the week ends. BREAD Camp is where kids get creative, try new things, laugh a lot, and maybe discover a little something about themselves along the way.
Campfires, night swims, games, art, wide open space… and just enough wonder to make them wish it lasted longer!
