The department has primary responsibility for public safety on the Hayward and Contra Costa Campuses and one mile beyond its borders.

The University Police Department is a professionally trained police department established pursuant to Section 89560 of the Education Code to fulfill the Public Safety needs of the campus Community. University Police Officers are sworn Peace Officers as established by Section 830.2 (d) of the California Penal Code and therefore may also enforce Federal, State and local laws throughout the state. CSUEB UPD is committed to building a culture of readiness and preparedness on campus. UPD today distributed Emergency Water, Food Bars, Masks, Gloves, and Hand Sanitizer so that all buildings across campus will be prepared. The food and water have 5 year Shelf-Life.

Ever wonder how much officer equipment weighs? Sergeant Elder weighed in at 210.4 lbs without gear and 240.6 lbs after wearing gear. That’s a 30.2 lbs difference! 😳🚨🚓👮🏾‍♂️

Two lost friendly dogs were found touring our Hayward campus. 🐶 We were unable to locate the owner and both dogs were dropped off at the Hayward Animal Shelter by Sergeant Elder. The owner can contact the Hayward Animal Shelter at 510-293-7200 🐕🦴🐾
