Each episode, a guest recommends a movie, we watch it, then talk about it. We’re sifting kernels to separate the burnt from the perfect popped corn.

Unfortunately, I need to cancel the 2024 Popcorn Roulette Film Festival. I’ve been spending the last eight months or so studying to become a real estate agent, and it cut into all my free time. That means that I haven’t been able to review most of the films sent to me, and I am most certainly not in the business of slapping movies on the wall for the community without giving those films the critical appraisal they deserve.

I’m unsure about the status of the 2025 film festival right now, too, and that mostly comes down to how soon I can regularly move good people into good houses. The film festival is far from shutting its doors, though. Quite the opposite, in fact. I think maintaining a film festival in a local community pairs incredibly well with being a real estate agent. Part of selling houses is building spheres of community to attract new homeowners, and you all have been one heck of a great community. So while I might need to focus on my new job this year, I will be more than eager to get the festival back up and running. And I’ll also be looking to grow the film festival by cloning it so I can show the same films in both my hometown of Haverhill, Massachusetts as well as my new home in Middle Tennessee.

If you paid a fee to submit a film to us, we will be returning your money within the next couple weeks. I would like to hold onto the films that were submitted to potentially choose some to show in the 2025 or 2026 film festival. If I want to select you I will be contacting you some time next year or the next one after that to see if that’s okay. If you do not want your film to be carried over to the next festival, please let me know and I will make sure to remove it from potential selection.

Thank you for being patient with us. I really love this festival, and love meeting all of you and sharing all the great films that often get overlooked in lieu of big films with big marketing budgets. Here’s hoping I get to munch a bucket of popcorn and watch some great films with you in 2025!

2023 Popcorn Roulette Short Film Festival Spin the wheel and watch a curious selection of over 20 engaging short films!

22 short films officially selected for this year's festival. Let's do this!

Final submission deadline for the film festival is in a few days. And doing the math, I have six hours worth of 8 and 9 star short videos that I want to show everybody. Unfortunately, our festival only allows for four and a half hours worth of content to be shown. 😅

I guess I have some cuts to make. On the plus side, with almost 100 submissions to choose from, this is going to be one great festival. 😄

The Popcorn Roulette Film Festival 03/04/2023

Hi everybody! We officially passed the mark where I have five hours worth of short films that are all rated as 'great' by me. Got there early this year. 😄

We're still accepting submissions, though! If you know someone who might want to submit to the Popcorn Roulette Short Film Festival, you can find the listing here: https://filmfreeway.com/PopcornRoulette . The regular deadline is April 28th, and the extended deadline is June 28th. You got a little competition, since I'm seeing some good entries, but I'm sure that with a little diligence and a smart idea that anyone can make it. 😄🎥

I got two more 30 minute films to watch, and a small pile coming in over the next two months. Guess I'm going to have a small challenge choosing which films are most appropriate and hang well together. It should be a great festival in September! 🍿🍿🍿
