Haslet Elementary Music

April highlights:
K & 1st grades are working hard on their end-of-year awards programs. Kindergarten students are beginning to read picture rhythms in preparation for note reading next year and we are playing rhythm games with rhythmic speech.

2nd & 3rd grades worked hard on their folk dancing programs and just completed them last week. We will be finishing the year working on pitch and adding solfege to new songs.

Fourth and fifth grades are working on their composition projects. Fifth grades have begun Eastman counting language which will carry them into middle school.

Percussion club wrapped up with an amazing performance at Artisans’
Expo. A few ukulele students surprised the school with a pop up performance on the patio.

We’re also reviewing in all grades 2nd-5th our Italian musical words for tempo, dynamics and articulation. We still have a lot to learn before school is out. It’s a busy season in the music room!

Third Grade is beginning to write rhythms using a staff, and fourth and fifth grade are using composition programs to build music. Younger grades continue to work on solfège and many other musical concepts. As always we find fun songs and games to reinforce the concepts we are learning.

Happy to host the Worthington Middle School Fine Arts program again this year! Students from orchestra, choir, band, and theater performed a holiday show for our students today.

Mallet skills on barred instruments, rhythm reading on NP percussion, and creative movements with musical games! We are having fun in music as we ease into a new school year.
