Happening tonight at 6pm.

The number of hate crimes has been steadily rising in Connecticut in recent years. You are invited to a discussion on June 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., about how the state and communities are responding. Learn how hate crimes are identified, reported, and investigated — and how you can play a role in preventing them.

The event, at the Newington Town Council Chambers, 200 Garfield St., is hosted by Newington Chief of Police Christopher Perry, Rocky Hill Chief of Police Brian Klett, Berlin Chief of Police Matt McNally, Cromwell Chief of Police Steven Penn, Wethersfield Chief of Police Rafael Medina, the Connecticut State Police Hate Crimes Investigative Unit, and State’s Attorney for Judicial District of New Britain Christian M. Watson.

Today was an incredible honor to receive the 2026 Newington Democrat of the Year Award and be surrounded by so many supporters, friends, and community leaders.

The people in the room today represent what makes Newington so special. They are tireless advocates who give their time, energy, and passion to making our community a better place for everyone.

Congratulations as well to Amy Perrotti, who received the Women in Leadership Award, and Jessica Weaver, who was recognized as Young Democrat of the Year. Both are incredibly deserving of this honor for their dedication to Newington’s children, our schools, and the greater community.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support, especially Chairman John Kelly, Vice Chair Terri LaPenta-Duffek, Mayor Jon Trister, former State Rep. Sandy Nafis, and our special guests Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Congressman John Larson, Comptroller Sean Scanlon, State Rep. Kate Farrar, and State Senator Matt Lesser.

Serving as your State Representative has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Over the last eight years, I have been fortunate to work alongside so many dedicated residents, advocates, and leaders who share a commitment to building a stronger, more affordable, and more inclusive Connecticut.

Most importantly, I want to thank my wife Heather. Her love, patience, and support make it possible for me to do this work and push me every day to be the best State Representative and person I can be.

Thank you, Newington. I am grateful for your trust, your friendship, and the opportunity to continue fighting for the community I love. 💙
