New York is moving forward with specific legislation that includes a call to action from President Biden to allocate $50B down payment toward federal Reparations. There must be specific legislation in order to overcome the racial disparities of black Americans.

"16-year-old student accused of making the Snapchat post was charged with breach of peace, and a more controversial charge of "ridicule on account of creed, religion, color, denomination, nationality or race," a misdemeanor offense unique to Connecticut."

What do our state legislatures think of this Connecticut law? What wasn't this student charged with a hate crime?

Focusing on the symptoms and resources available is good but is not enough. There will never be true healing until the root cause is addressed.

We cannot address the mental health crisis in this country without acknowledging how it disproportionately affects Black Americans. Black people are over-represented in our jails and prisons and disparities in access to care and treatment for Black Americans have persisted over time. Even more, less than 2% of American Psychological Association members are Black. This Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s spread awareness about these inequalities and share resources for the Black community in Connecticut and the United States.
