It was a busy week at Strength In Peers!
Alongside daily peer support, peer groups, resource navigation, and harm reduction outreach, our team spent time learning and growing through hands-on training.
Staff and interns from our Lion's PRIDE (Peer Recovery Internship for Development & Empowerment) program participated in Compassionate Crisis Care training, where they practiced responding to crisis situations using de-escalation, grounding, communication, and safety skills. We even had local actors volunteer to simulate crisis scenarios so participants could practice responding in realistic situations.
The Lion's PRIDE team also explored Peer Pathways to Work, learning how to identify Stages of Change, recognize transferable skills, and use Recovery-Oriented Employment Support (ROES) pathways to help people move toward meaningful work and community participation.
Most importantly, interns were encouraged to think beyond the question, "What job do you want?" and instead ask, "What kind of life do you want to build to support your wellness, recovery, and goals?"
We are proud of the dedication our staff and interns continue to show as they grow their skills, strengthen their recovery leadership, and walk alongside others on their recovery journeys. Through this work we were able to offer continuing education credit to Certified Peer Recovery Specialists.
A special thank you to Open Doors for allowing us to use the Navigation Center as a training space this week. We appreciate your partnership and support!
