Rabies is not something we take lightly ⚠️

With another rabid bat recently confirmed in our area 🦇, we want to remind pet owners that keeping pets current on their rabies vaccination is not optional—it is one of the most important things you can do to protect them 🐾💉

Rabies is a fatal disease that can affect both animals and people ⚠️. Wildlife such as bats, raccoons, skunks, foxes, and even stray cats and dogs can serve as sources of exposure 🦝🦊🐕🐈. While vaccination greatly reduces your pet’s risk of contracting rabies, it also becomes critically important if an exposure occurs, often resulting in far less restrictive quarantine requirements and significantly improving the outcome for everyone involved ✅.

If your pet is overdue for a rabies vaccine, please make scheduling that appointment a priority 📅. If your pet has had any contact with a bat or other wildlife, contact a veterinarian immediately 📞.

This is one vaccine we strongly recommend every eligible pet receive and remain current on 💉🐾.

🌼 Patient Spotlight: Daisy 🌼

Today’s spotlight belongs to the adorable Daisy! We mean, seriously… just look at those ears. ❤️🐾

While Daisy is certainly cute enough to steal the show on her own, we’d also like to give a shoutout to her wonderful mom. Having a dedicated pet parent who is committed to their dog’s health and well-being makes all the difference, and Daisy is lucky to have someone firmly in her corner.

Let’s hear it for Daisy and her mom! 👏💕

Ever wonder why your dog is “in the back” for so long? 🤔

The truth is… we’re just as obsessed with them as you are. ❤️

Case in point: Gibbs. Between his endless tail wags and his enthusiasm for giving kisses (with tongue 😅), it’s hard to get any work done when he’s around. We promise we’re taking care of your pet’s needs—but we may also be sneaking in a few extra cuddles along the way.

Show Gibbs some love in the comments! 🐾

🐍 Wildlife rescue of the day! 🐍

This little milk snake was saved from one of our team member’s garages before getting locked inside for the night and was safely returned outdoors.

Milk snakes are harmless, beneficial neighbors that help keep rodent populations under control. While most snakes in Ohio aren’t dangerous, it’s always a good idea to keep curious pets from getting too close and contact your veterinarian if you suspect a snake bite.

Now let’s show snakes some love! ❤️ Share your favorite garden snake sightings—or photos of your pet snakes—in the comments!

Stormi is here with an important Fourth of July reminder! 🎆🐾

Fun fact: Stormi got herself into trouble last year after deciding an unlit firework looked like a tasty snack. Fortunately, she’s okay—but we couldn’t help but think she’d make the perfect poster child for firework safety. 😅

On a more serious note, if your pet struggles with fireworks, loud noises, or holiday anxiety, now is the time to contact us about medication options. Please don’t wait until July 3rd to call. Every year, we receive a large number of requests for sedatives and anti-anxiety medications, and last-minute requests may not be able to be accommodated.

Reaching out early gives our team time to review your pet’s medical history and make sure you have everything you need before the festivities begin.

Help us help your pets have a safe, calm, and stress-free Fourth of July! ❤️🤍💙

🐾 Help Us Support StrayHaven! 🐾

Harrison Animal Hospital is collecting supplies for Stray Haven, a local rescue organization that works tirelessly every day to help animals in our community.

Over the years, Stray Haven has saved countless dogs and cats, giving them a second chance at life. Many of those rescued pets have gone on to find loving homes with families right here at Harrison Animal Hospital. Their impact on our community is truly incredible.

Right now, Stray Haven is especially in need of:
🐱 Kitten food
🪣 Cat litter

We know our community has a big heart, and we would love to show up for them. Donations can be dropped off at Harrison Animal Hospital during regular office hours.

And if you've adopted a pet from Stray Haven, we'd love to see them! Share a photo of your Stray Haven baby in the comments and help us celebrate the lives they've changed. ❤️

Thank you for helping us support a rescue that gives so much to animals in need.

Our team has been hard at work expanding their skills and continuing their commitment to exceptional patient care!

Today, Dr. Frerick, Dr. Carlin, Dr. Orndorff, and RVT Lily spent the day advancing their abdominal ultrasound training, building on their knowledge and confidence so we can continue providing comprehensive diagnostic care right here at Harrison Animal Hospital.

Ongoing education is one of the many ways we invest in our patients, our team, and the quality of medicine we provide every day.

And while you’re here, take a moment to appreciate this adorable photo of Dr. Orndorff with a handsome Jotun Maine C***s Cattery kitten—we’re pretty sure neither of them could be any cuter. 🐾❤️

Some patients leave paw prints on your heart, and Lila is certainly one of them. ❤️

Lila and her brother have been part of the Harrison Animal Hospital family for many years, and honestly, we are the lucky ones. They are two of the sweetest, most wonderful dogs you could ever hope to meet, and their owners are every bit as amazing—kind, down-to-earth, and the kind of people we’re honored to know.

Unfortunately, Lila injured her leg today while doing what greyhounds do best: running full speed and living life to the fullest. Fortunately, she’s in great hands with Dr. Orndorff and will even have a special guest appearance from Dr. Kremer to help with her surgery tomorrow.

Please join us in sending Lila lots of love, well wishes, and positive thoughts for a smooth procedure and speedy recovery. We can’t wait to see her back on all four legs and doing what she loves most—running.

You’ve got this, Lila! ❤️🐾

Summer is one of the busiest times of year at Harrison Animal Hospital, and our team is working hard every day to help pets and the people who love them.

When the days are full and the pace is nonstop, there’s something incredibly motivating about reading the kind words and stories shared by our clients. Your feedback reminds us why we do what we do and helps keep us grounded in our mission of caring for our community’s pets.

If we’ve ever cared for your pet, answered a question, celebrated a happy moment, or helped you through a difficult one, we’d be absolutely honored if you’d take a moment to leave us a Google review.

Thank you for trusting us with your furry family members and for supporting our amazing team. ❤️🐾
