Applications for the Fall PA House Fellowship Program are due July 1!

The Fellowship Program offers students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the legislative process. Fellows are assigned to work in House standing committees or House leadership offices and have opportunities to draft and present their own legislation, attend meet-and-greets with public officials, and more.

Fellows are paid, may earn college credit, and gain hands‑on experience working inside the Capitol.

Don’t wait — share with students who belong in Harrisburg this fall and send them to www.pahousefellowship.us to apply before the deadline.

I had an incredible time at Harrisburg's second annual Juneteenth Parade on Saturday celebrating Black freedom and liberation that was denied to enslaved people in Galveston, Texas in 1865.

This was the first time the parade was held on Second Street, establishing the parade as a permanent staple in Harrisburg!

Thank you to everyone who came out; It was a great way to send-off the week with celebrations and plenty of community pride!

It was great to celebrate the groundbreaking of new homes at 16th & Market Street in Harrisburg by Christopher Franklin and Steelworks Construction.

These homes will create life-changing opportunities for families and help build a lasting legacy of homeownership that can be passed down to future generations.

It was a pleasure to join YPOC’s Juneteenth panel on Work, Wealth, and Freedom this week alongside Harrisburg City Councilman Lamont Jones, Dr. Benjamin Henry, Harrisburg School District Superintendent, Rep. Nate Davidson, and County Commissioner Justin Douglas.

I emphasized the importance of civic engagement in building the conditions for greater prosperity and equity for Black communities in Harrisburg and beyond.

This week, I attended a Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus rally to protect voting rights in Pennsylvania. Advocates and elected officials from across the country gathered to discuss safeguarding access to the ballot and ensuring every eligible voter can participate.

Voting is how everyday people shape major elections. At a time when public education, healthcare access, reproductive freedom, and our children’s future are on the line, it matters more than ever.

Generations not only fought, but were beaten and killed, for the right to vote. It’s critical that voting rights are protected at all levels of government and that legal, eligible voters exercise that right every chance they get!

In observance of Juneteenth, my office will be closed tomorrow, June 19. We will reopen for our regularly scheduled hours on Monday, June 22.

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and free enslaved African Americans. It is a key moment in our nation’s history—one worth honoring and celebrating, even as important work remains.

Yesterday, I joined my fellow members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus to commemorate Juneteenth and reflect on the ongoing pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality for all in the United States.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation, bringing freedom to enslaved African Americans. This date marks an important moment in our nation’s history and I’m proud that- although there’s still work to be done- we have so much to celebrate.
