The homeowners love hosting their children and grandchildren —but with all of these blessings, none of their rooms were larger enough for everyone to fit at the same time.

When everyone came over, conversations were split between rooms, and the space didn’t allow everyone to be together in the way they wanted to be.

At first, they considered turning their screened-in porch into a year-round living space. But that idea quickly came off the table. His wife and daughter loved that porch. It was where they enjoyed meals outside on beautiful days, and it had become a special gathering place of its own.

So instead of adding on, we looked at what the home already had.

As you can see in the before photo, a load bearing wall separated the living room from the family room. By removing that wall, we were able to completely transform the way this home lives.

The result is almost unrecognizable.

The two rooms are now one open, welcoming space where the whole family can gather, talk, laugh, and make memories together. We also added a new window where the fireplace used to be, replaced a single window with a double window, and added a beautiful bay window at the front of the home—giving the homeowners the perfect sunny spot for their plants.

This project wasn’t just about opening up a wall.

It was about creating a home that finally fits the way this family loves to be together.

Master Bath or Primary Bath — what do you call it?

I’m starting to hear more people use “Primary Bath” instead of “Master Bath.” Some felt the word “master” sounded outdated or carried a negative connotation.

On the other hand, “master” can simply mean the main or principal one, and we still use it in phrases like master key, master copy, and master craftsman.

Many real estate listings, designers, and some contractors have already shifted to Primary Bath. But does the name change really matter, or is it over-correcting?

Personally, I’m fine with either. Master Bath, Primary Bath — we know what you mean.
