Would you trust your abuser to dictate your treatment and restoration plan? So why trust the Governor and legislative leaders. No community, No Deal.
๐ฝ NY Lawmakers & Governor Cut A Deal With No Community Voice.
๐๐พ No Community Council! No bueno
๐๐พ No Impact Study! No bueno
๐๐พ No Medical Expansion! No bueno
Whereโs the Damage Assessment?
๐ This feels like a sick experiment. The lawmakers that detested cannabis and jailed Black Americans are now vying to control the legal business.
If you Or your organization supported the Rockefeller Drugs Law, 94 Crime Bill and/or 2014 NY Compassionate Care Act then you are not able to advocate for the community today.
If you are sitting at the negotiation table And you never rode dirty then you canโt advocate for me nor the community.
๐ฝ NY state wonโt cure imminent health and safety disparities Inherent in the medical cannabis program. Instead uts "Letโs just pass a weak recreation bill and leave medical cannabis untouched." Again the abuser is deciding the appropriate remedy.
This is Clearly Unfair!

From the Desk of the Executive Director
New York, NY. The proposed Cannabis Reform plan, in its current form, is not good for New York and sets a bad precedent as a national model. It misses the mark.
The bill has:
(1) NO provisions to expand the current medical cannabis program leaving systemic healthcare inequality negatively impacting Black and Brown communities;
(2) NO mandated damage assessment to research, record, and assess the overall injury the War on Drugs caused on New Yorkers;
(3) NO State funded reparative justice commitment to compensate injured individuals and communities;
(4) NO appointed Community Council and/or statutorily designated community representative to offer community input in administering the program.
This year marks the 50th year anniversary of the US declaring a War on Black and Brown Americans. We Rise to Legalize and its community partners are calling on President Joe Biden to finally end the War on Drugs and set a national standard for state reform.
The proposed plan offers no community voice negotiating the interests of unfairly targeted Black and Brown Americans by state actors. Many past bad actors are now attempting to negotiate the interests of the community. The conflicts of interest are clear yet our elected leaders are still attempting to impose the will of corporate interests on the community. This is not a community supported bill.

โWeโre asking for the federal government to take part, as well as the international community to join in to ensure that the United States government treats African Americans as well as other Americans that have come to this country from the African enslaved.โ
In Black America, for example, when drug use began to tear down families and communities the federal government turned a blind eye. However, when white America began to feel the impact and destruction from drugs hitting the Rust Belt communities, a national anti-drug conversation began focusing on white Middle Americaโs Main Street.
That is the conversation Kurt Schmoke had during the Trump years when then-President Donald Trump placed a bright light on the issue of opioid addiction as one of the major hot button issues for the presidential campaign trail of 2016.

Maryland Senate Passes Bill to Ban Police from Denying Fi****ms to Medical Ma*****na Users
By: Mike Maharrey
On Friday, the Maryland Senate unanimously passed a bill that would prohibit the Maryland State Police from denying a medical ma*****na cardholder the ability to purchase a firearm.
Sen. Michael Hough (R) introduced Senate Bill 190 (SB190) on Jan. 13. Under the proposed law, a person could not be denied the right to purchase, possess, or carry a firearm solely on the basis that they are authorized to use medical cannabis.
On March 12, the Senate passed SB190 by a 45-0 vote.
