Today’s shoutout goes to the crews who keep showing up, pushing forward, and getting the work done even when the temperatures are anything but easy.

Working in this heat takes more than physical strength. It takes awareness, patience, teamwork, and a real commitment to looking out for one another. The long days, heavy gear, hot surfaces, and nonstop movement can take a toll — and that is exactly why heat safety matters so much.

So here is a simple reminder for everyone on our jobsites: drink water, take breaks when needed, pay attention to how you feel, and watch out for the people working next to you. Speaking up early can make all the difference.

Stay cool, stay aware, and keep taking care of each other.

PCS recently supported work at Building 655 on Hunting Avenue in Hampton, VA, as part of the MUHJ Repair Old Steam Plant project.

Our team provided asbestos abatement and selective demolition services to help prepare the existing structure for its next phase. The scope included removing asbestos-containing floor tile and mastic, along with selective demolition throughout the space — including walls, roofing, stairs, doors, windows, fixtures, mechanical equipment, and sections of concrete slab.

Projects like this may not always be the most visible once the final work is complete, but they play a major role in moving a renovation forward. Before new work can begin, spaces need to be carefully cleared, controlled, and made safe for the teams coming in next.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and in construction, this conversation hits close to home.

This is an industry built by people who are expected to be tough, dependable, and ready to push through hard days. But the truth is, the weight someone is carrying is not always visible from the outside.

Construction continues to be one of the industries most affected by su***de, which means mental health cannot be treated like a separate conversation from safety. It belongs in the same room. It belongs on the jobsite. It belongs in the way we look out for each other.

Safety is not only about hard hats, harnesses, equipment, and procedures. It is also about the person wearing the gear. The person showing up early. The person staying focused under pressure. The person going home to a family, a friend, or someone who depends on them.This year’s Mental Health Awareness Month theme is “More Good Days, Together.” For us, that means remembering that no one should have to carry the hard days alone.

Last week during Construction Safety Week, we turned a little friendly competition into a reminder of something that matters every single day on our jobsites: organization matters.

From keeping materials in order to maintaining clean and safe work areas, the crews that stood out showed how much pride they take in their work and in looking out for one another. An organized jobsite doesn’t just look better — it helps prevent hazards, keeps everyone more aware of their surroundings, and creates a safer environment for the entire team.

To thank the winning crews, we stopped by with coffee and donuts — a small gesture to recognize a big commitment. But the truth is, there’s no reward greater than knowing everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.

Thank you to all of our crews for the effort they put in every day, and congratulations to the teams who won this fun competition while proving that safety and organization go far beyond just one week.

As Construction Safety Week comes to a close, we’re reminded that safety is never just a one-week conversation. It’s something carried into every jobsite, every meeting, every decision, and every task throughout the year.
