They are so different and beautiful in their own way: the British Shorthair, Maine C**n, and Ragdoll, as well as the Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight (in both shorthair and longhair varieties). They won’t all fit into a single post. 🤪

We have such a wonderful British Shorthair litter this time! Two girls and one boy! The little ones have already opened their eyes and will be ready to move to their new homes on September 4th.

“I have a British Fold cat” — or the myth that millions of people still believe

This is probably one of the biggest headaches for feline specialists and veterinarians. Remember this, write it down, and better yet, tell everyone you know: there is no such breed as a “British Fold.”

The British Shorthair and the Scottish Fold are two completely different, independent breeds. They have different body structures, head shapes, personalities, and most importantly, genetics.

British Shorthairs are large, heavy cats with round cheeks and exclusively straight ears. Scottish cats are lighter and more elegant. They are divided into Folds, with folded ears, and Straights, with straight ears.

The confusion goes back to the early development of the Scottish Fold breed. During the formation of the breed, Scottish cats were indeed crossed with British Shorthairs to improve their type and give them a more plush appearance. Because of this, many people began to view them as one mixed breed.

So, when you see an advertisement offering “British Fold kittens,” you should be cautious. Most often, it means one of two things: either the seller does not understand cat breeds, or they are intentionally misleading buyers by selling kittens without verified ancestry or proper documents.
