It was a bit windy last night, but I found this keeled treehopper on one of the plants in our yard. It looks like something took a bite out of it. The keled treehoppers are often attended by ants which feed on the honeydew they excrete. In return, the ants offer protection from predators. Keeled tree hoppers typically feed on plants in the aster family and they are not known to trnsmit plant desease and are not considered significant plant pests.

Having fun using the new OM3 ASTRO camera! I set the camera next to this pond as the water was still and made for a great long exposure mirroring the night sky . At about the 8 minute mark (10 minute total exposure) this meteor flew over the horizon. Not only did I catch the streak of light I was able to get its refection in the pond water below. I wish I was able to extend the exposure, but decided against it due to dense clouds quickly approaching. The camera was set to live composite mode: settings F2.8, 7-14mm lens, 50second exposure, lighten, 12 frames for a total of 10 minutes. Enjoy!
