On Thursday evening, June 18th we held our Monthly Meeting & Training Session. 19 of our members reviewed the major concerns of the upcoming busy summer venues of the Fireworks Celebration and the 4 nights of the Hamden Concert Series.
We reviewed some of our previous complexities relating to: Traffic & Parking, Patient Care & First Aid Treatments, a Missing Person or Children & Rehabilitation for CERT Members working in extreme heat conditions. Most of these venues draw thousands of patrons & traffic & parking must be coordinated for the safety of all parties involved. Medical incidents have ranged from minor scrapes to acute medical concerns that we treat accordingly until the arrival of First Responders. Within the park area where we serve, missing children or adults are common because of the large 8.8 plus acres of open area that also contains a playground and an access road where traffic is monitored and managed.
We look forward to large crowds, putting our hours of training to work and enjoying our opportunity to serve our community during one of our busier seasons. π (Photos are from past events.)

Over the last 2 days, 9 of our Hamden CERT Members supported the Hamden Middle School End of Year Celebration. 4 groups of students over the 2-day period brought hundreds of students, parents & other relatives to celebrate the occasion. With 2 sessions each day, our members managed hundreds of vehicles as one group of students were dismissed as the next group of vehicles entered the parking areas for the second session.
We were able to provide a safe, organized transition of vehicles entering & leaving at the same time, as we also protected the hundreds of friends & family members with a safe path to and from their vehicles. We also had the pleasure of directing 33 school buses as they entered the site for the pickup of other students that were being dismissed.

Thank you to our Hamden CERT Volunteers who gave up a good part of their weekend supporting the Hamden Road Race & Festival. Our members started on Friday evening, helping to set up the track & prepare the entry points and parking area.
It was an early start (06:00 hrs.) on Saturday morning to be ready for the many runners who entered the park to warm up & prepare for their events. In the middle of all of the activities around noon time, we also helped Hamden Fire Department with 4 medical emergencies, all at the same time! We truly appreciate our members who worked beyond a regular 8-hour day, under a hot, sunny sky & got by on a few bottles of water, a bagel & some cookies. π A total of 132 Service Hours over the two days is something that our members & community can be proud of!

At our Monthly CERT Meeting last evening we were proud to have 34 members present, including 11 graduates of our latest completed training. We were honored to have our Fire Chief, Shelly Carter, with us to provide the State of Connecticut Required, Loyalty Oath to all of the members present.
We also discussed the 2 major fires that took place over the last 3 days and how Hamden CERT Members assisted at both incidents with firefighter rehabilitation, assisting displaced residents and other needed logistical support. π Thank you again to Chief Carter & all of our CERT Members who find the time to assist our 1st Responders & all members of our community.

Hamden CERT Volunteers were activated today for another emergency at a structure fire at 660 Mix Avenue. The incident happened a little after noon at a 6 story, non-fireproof, residential apartment building. All Hamden Fire Apparatus & Personnel were on scene for close to 3 hours, because of the many interior exposure concerns that required extensive overhaul operations.
With this being our 2nd Multiple Alarm Fire in the last 3 days, we thank our Mutual Aid Partners from all surrounding towns along with our Hamden Police. We also would like to thank the multiple AMR Units that were on scene to assist with the many individuals who were temporarily displaced during the fire suppression operations. Both of Hamden CERT Units were on scene to assist with firefighter rehabilitation and offering temporary sheltering needs for those who were displaced. Hamden CERT Units returned to service shortly after 15:30 hours.
