Tiny House Textiles
Custom dyed baby carriers and more! Hello! I'm Julie Olson, owner and artist at Tiny House Textiles in Hallowell, Maine. Tiny House Textiles was born.
Soon after my son was born, I went to a local babywearing meeting where the leader shook a mysterious armful of fabric at me and gushed, “you’ve really got to try a woven wrap.” By the next month’s meeting, I had gone deep down the babywearing rabbit hole and was shaking my own armfuls of fabric and gushing, “look at what I dyed!” Working in my tiny house, I dyed dozens of carriers from my persona

Hi everyone! Between my library job, raising my little family, and normal life things like occasionally pursuing hobbies and trying to get an actual full night's sleep, I've come to realize that I'm just not going to have time for Tiny House the way I used to; I'm officially closing up shop. Thank you all so much for the years of loyal support and for welcoming me and my art into your life. When my son was first born, I found myself adrift, lonely, and suffering from postpartum depression- something that isn't talked about enough. Finding the babywearing community changed my life. I can't say that enough. Babywearing gave me so much more than a small business. It gave me something to think about, things to learn and, most importantly, an instant network of strong, smart, supportive, creative mom friends, both online and in person. It's time for me to let go of the business, but the skills I've learned and the friendships I made through babywearing I'll take with me through the rest of my life. Thank you all so much, and I wish you all the very best. - Julie

This Warped and Wonderful handwoven has been ombre dyed in a rich green and purple color scheme. This is a custom dye project on a wrap provided by the customer.

This Calypso Handwoven (silk, cotton, bamboo blend) has been given an ombre dye with soft pink, blue, and gray. The wrap was woven with a hand dyed weft, and the color didn't come through as much as the customer liked; by giving it an ombre dye with complimentary colors, it retained the spirit of the original color way and hand-dyed yarn characteristics while imparting a bit more color. This is a custom dye project on a wrap provided by the customer.

This Cari Slings Masquerade has been dyed in a low water immersion in grays and blacks, inspired by the mists and shadows of the Phantom of the Opera. This is a custom dye project on a wrap provided by the customer.

This was a donated dye project on a Cari Slings Cardiidae for Babywearing International of Central Maine to celebrate International Babywearing Week. To capture the shapes and colors of their selected inspiration image, I used a shibori tie dye technique with ice dyeing for a fun, vibrant look.
