SLATES PARKING LOT IS NOW OPEN!!!!!! Thank you for your patience
05/19/2026
UPDATE !!! Slates parking lot has been paved and striped BUT we are going to hold off opening it until late Wednesday the 20th or early Thursday the 21st. With this heat and humidity the pavement is still a little soft. Giving it just a little more time to cure will keep it from getting marked up with sharp turning tires. Thank you for your patience and having all but one vehicle moved Monday morning made our timeline doable
Good Monday folks !!!! Just a heads up that the parking lot behind the old fire station will be paved next week between Monday the 18th and the 21st. Please no parking until all signs, cones and barricades are removed. Between weather, asphalt setting up and possibly painting that’s why we plan for four days. Painting might have to be done on a later date which will only require a half day closure.
Cardboard dumpsters. I believe some miscommunication has occurred regarding the shutdown of cardboard recycling. As of this morning, the signs notifying that there would be no more cardboard collection have been taken down. Collection will continue until the city council decides on the best practice moving forward, with input from citizens, committees, and city staff. Apologies to all affected.

A small piece of sheetrock, maybe a stick or two of dimensional lumber, maybe something else that fell out of your truck or trailer unloading brush is understandable. NOT 20+ PLASTIC bags full of leaves. The leaf and brush pile, for Hallowell residents only, has only been open for just a few days and this happens. I hope we can all try harder or it’s going to cost all of us a lot more money and aggravation by having to go to hatch hill in Augusta. Who knows how long they will continue taking outside communities??
