Peculiar Perceptions
7 years reading cards for the masses. Reach out to set up a digitally distant reading, and let’s s I can’t wait to get shuffling with you guys!
My name is Matthew, I’ve been reading cards for friends and family for 7 years now. 7 seems like an auspicious number to start a new endeavor, and here we are. Reading distantly is a new thing for me, but in our day and age we can visit with each other in the safest ways possible and so we adjust and adapt. I prefer to read with someone on a video chat of some sort, to preserve the interaction t

Good evening to all of you gentlefolks!
I had taken a long hiatus from posting daily readings, and while I don’t intend to start that back up again I did want to stop by with a special Imbolc reading.
Imbolc is one of the high holidays on the wheel of the year, and is personally the most significant in my practice. Imbolc is a time when we light candles, and hold out hope for the winter’s passing. It is a time for looking ahead past the weariness of winter and renewing faith in the promise of coming Spring.
For this reading I used my favorite simple 2 card spread, and it’s meant to tell us what to take with us into the spring, and what we would be better left leaving behind in the habits of winter.
Breathe In
The Six of Cups. This card is a lovely symbol meant to remind us of the sweet memories of our childhood. It is everything that makes us feel playful and relaxed, it is the echo of friendships over years and feelings they leave us with. It is one of the softest cards in the deck, with gentle remedies brimming in its cups. In this placement the card whispers to us that we need to spend more time and focus on reconnecting ourselves to those who love us. It tells us to seek out company and renew ties, to center ourselves around the bliss that comes spending good times with good folks.
Breathe Out
The Ace of Wands. This card calls to everything that is industrious and passionate. It is movement and ideas, driven motivation and fiery focus. In this placement the cards tell us that it is not the season to become so turbulent, it is not the time to be so focused on works and progression. I feel that this card speaks to our weariness that has been carved into us over the past season. Maybe we feel as though we need to jump directly into the Sun and get to work as soon as possible. But that is not the advice here. We must let go of that need to catch up, and put our energies into simply enjoying the warmth of the upcoming months, that is where the healing comes from.
Remember these wisdoms- put your focus into gentle company and acknowledge our need for the healing that comes with this soft remedy. Be still, and spend your time well. There will be moments for movement, but you must first take care of yourself.
Have a blessed week loves, and merry Imbolc. ✨

good afternoon all you gentlefolks ✨
I know it’s been awhile but here is a Breathe Spread for you. The first card will tell us the energies and motivations we should take into ourselves for the upcoming days, and the second card will tell us the things we are better off letting go of.
Breathe In~
The 8 of Wands. This is a dynamic card and it’s vibrancy is usually seen as good luck, as it comes to us when elements in our lives externally come together to allow us to succeed in our endeavors. This card is a messenger that the winds are right, and the opportunity is here for you to reach out and go after the things you’ve been seeking. The wisdom here is to focus what we want and use these situations to our best benefit. Take this with you into the days ahead and tilt your being towards success.
Breathe Out~
The 8 of Swords. This card stands in a direct opposition from the previous placement, and warns us that our internal perspectives are holding us back. While the Wands card speaks to a favorable external environment, this Swords card calls out what is happening in our own minds, warning us that the feeling of being trapped is one of our own making. Take time this week to self examine, and let go of the inhibitions that sabotage your peace.
I love this particular simple spread because the cards often choose to be pulled in an almost a poetic stance against each other. The messages are clear on where we need to put our focus and what we must grow away from. Take these little wisdoms into your week ahead and have a blessed time of it. 🌹

good afternoon all you gentlefolks, here a Breathe Spread for the week ahead 💖
Breathe In~
Justice. This card stands as one of the pillars of order in the deck, as it encompasses rationalization and truth. When Justice comes to us in a reading it brings with it a need for clear sight, it’s wisdom for us is to take an objective perspective- to see all the facts and mingle our intuition with our deductive reasoning. It has been said that this card comes to us when the choices that we are making will have longer reaching consequences on the flow of our futures, so careful consideration is needed. This card is not forsaking your emotional ties to your choices, but rather letting them take a back seat to your motivations as we see the Truth of things undiluted.
Breathe Out~
The Devil. There are many preconceptions of this card and as many meanings as there are readers to the cards. For my own readings, the Devil is a symbol for all of our darker impulses, a messenger of a less civilized and hungry voice within all of us. It is the animalistic and hedonistic tendency that we learn to filter out. The reckless pursuit of pleasure, no matter the cost. However, we are made a better and more whole person to shine a light on these darker desires- to understand them and ourselves, to more importantly, to keep them from growing in the dark like a mold on our soul. We must acknowledge these impulses, and then we can more easily chose not to feed them.
This spread is clear and potent- we must draw into ourselves the objective truth of our choices as we make them, and let go of our darker and more selfish impulses in order to make them. There is a message of acknowledgment of our own selves and our motivations in this spread, and I hope it brings you some guidance for the week coming.
Have a most blessed day, and remember that you can always book a private video reading with me whenever it suits you. 🌹✨

Happy Solstice all you gentlefolks~
here’s a 3 card spread for a dramatic return to the weekly reading.
🌞
Here is The Wheel of Fortune, the 10th card of the Major Arcana. This card whispers to us that circumstances are shifting in the days ahead, that luck will change is flow and the pace of its rhythm will affect us. The next question that we always have is, will it be good luck or bad luck that comes to me? But the wisdom of this card is more nuanced, it is a lesson and a reminder that change is the only constant in our lives. All things take a turn on the Wheel, and while life does change there is comfort in that too. Take the changes as they come and enjoy the fruits while they remain available to us.
🌚
This Hanged Man was pulled in this placement for us today. This card can be an enormously uncomfortable energy to encounter, as it’s most poignant message is to remind us how very much our lives are out of our control. We spend our years on this lovely blue marble, and life sometimes happens at us or to us rather than what we invite by our own choice. But there is a glimmer of hope here, a peace in Letting Go. Challenges will confront us, filling us with a fresh awareness of our own helplessness. This card warns that we will be made uncomfortable by the turning of the Wheel in the coming days, but it also gifts us with the knowledge our inner peace can be persevered no matter the circumstances.
🌟
The Chariot. Almost as a rebuke to the Hanged Man and the Wheel of Fortune this card appears to offer us the advice we crave. This card is about empowerment in our own agency. It is pulled here in this placement to remind us that there are aspects of our life that are within our control, that remain within our power. There is a subtle nuance here, a give and take of the cards before and I hope all of you catch it - yes life is messy and we are unwitting passengers of higher forces beyond our comprehension. But, we have governance over our own reactions and there are choices that remain to us no matter what happens to us. This card pushes us to find our own agency in our lives, to persevere and make the effort to stand tall and steady despite the ebbs and flows that surround us. This card reminds us that we CAN endure and that we should.
This is a mighty spread for such an important day. The Summer Solstice, when light lingers the longest, a day celebrating our fathers, the afterglow of a newly minted and long overdue national holiday of Juneteenth, and during the long summer celebrations of Pride. What a magic time, and I hope you get to celebrate these days.
Take the magic and the meaning of this reading for yourselves today, and remember I am always here for a private reading whenever you feel ready for one. 🌹

here’s a Breathe Spread for all you gentlefolks on this holiday weekend.
Breathe In~
The Ten of Cups. This is one of the most blissful cards in the deck, and it represents a full portion of love, adoration and safety. The wisdom of this is for us to look for these moments of love in the week ahead, to drink deep from them and let it refresh us. It is a simple and beautiful message for our days coming.
Breathe Out~
The Nine of Swords. This card speaks to anxieties and panics that have grown like weeds in our own mind, and we must draw them out of ourselves in order to enjoy the lovely moments to come. This year has been filled with crisis, and we carry the scars of that on our hearts and minds. But we must make a conscious effort to release ourselves from that pattern of anxiety, and allow ourselves to experience the joys that this season will bring us.
Have a lovely week all you gentlefolks 🌹

here’s a Breathe Spread for all you gentlefolks this lovely Sunday afternoon 🌹
Breathe In~
The 13th card of the Major Arcana, Death. This card has a looming reputation, but the truth of it’s the wisdom is something different then what popular culture has taught us to expect. Death in the Tarot is the Great Shape Changer. It does not point to a specific “death” of any one person, but rather a potent and dramatic shift in our lives. This card is not comfortable, and we as humans tend to balk at the idea of change- but in this position we are advised to ride with this change, to breathe it into ourselves and allow it to seep into our perspective. Take the changes as they come, holding onto the peace that we can foster in our inner core - acknowledging what is beyond our control to keep.
Breathe Out-
The Six of Wands. This card is about success, victory and accolades. It is the winner’s strut, showered in congratulations. It can be confusing to find this card in this position, as something that we must let go of in the coming week. It is not that we will not succeed, it is not a portent of doom, it is just and advisement that we need to let go of our need for acknowledgement. This is an important distinction to make to understand the message here- do not be motivated by your need to be rewarded. Do your works because they must be done, and make an effort to separate it from the needs of your ego.
This spread is a lesson in humbleness. Acknowledging the illusion of control we hide ourselves in, and accepting the changes that come. All while letting go of the need to be praised and gratified, letting our successes be born without ego. Medicine is sometimes bitter, but it heals us all the same. Have a blessed week loves ✨

good evening all you gentlefolks, here’s a Sky Spread for the week ahead. The🌞 will tell us the general theme of the week, the 🌚 will tell us of the subtle challenges we will encounter, and the 🌟 will tell us what actions and mindsets we should best take.
🌞
The Page of Pentacles. This card comes to us at the start of something new, as all Pages do. In the earthly expression of Pentacles this Page tells us that there is a new opportunity, skill, or object to be had in the start of the week. Allow yourself to be enamored and excited by this opportunity, it may challenge us and make us feel clumsy and new - but that is a good feeling to have every once in awhile.
🌚
The Five of Swords. This card is placed as a clear and direct warning. Fives usually point to a struggle of some sort, a set back or a conflict and this card specifically indicates and argument where words fly as sharp as blades. Take this warning, and measure out yourselves carefully in conversations in the week ahead. You may win the argument, but at the cost of hurting those around you.
🌟
The Ace of Cups. This is a particularly lovely card, and it meshes well into the previous cards. This card is a flow of compassion and gentleness. Pulled in this placement it advises us to move with gentleness in the week ahead, to temper ourselves with kind flows. You may be challenged by the works that present themselves even if they intrigue you, and you may be tempted to join in on harsh arguments that confront you - but the wisdom of this card is to be connected to a inner well of love and tenderness. Remember to keep your cup full, in both your examinations of yourself and interactions with those around you.
Have a blessed week y’all 💖

good afternoon all you gentlefolks 🌹
here’s one of my favorite and most simple spreads, the two card Breathe spread. The first card will tell us what is necessary to take into ourselves for the week ahead, and the second will tell us what we would be better off letting go of.
Breathe In~
The Four of Cups. The art of this card is one of my favorites, and it’s meaning is potent for us. Withdraw, and reflect. This particular card comes up when a lack of reaction is required, when we must take a step back from the goings on of our lives and simply be calm in ourselves. Sometimes this card can whisper of situations that beg for our attention, either in a good way or a bad way these events will tug at us to have an emotional reaction. But the wisdom of this card is to be uninvolved, to be stoic and retreat into ourselves. To wait out these passing stimuli.
Breathe Out~
The Hierophant. This card tends to be one of the more ambiguous of the Major Arcana, it has been called The Pope or The Teacher and it represents established wisdom. This card is the time that we spend learning and relying on conventional practice and taught understanding. In this placement it communicates that we must let go of our urge to apply passed on advice. This card can come as a trusted mentor, or guidance that we seek. Sometimes it is enormously beneficial to rely on someone more experienced than ourselves, or what is an established best practice. But in this week ahead we must not seek out that advice, we must strive to have our own opinion and understanding for ourselves. Perhaps this week will require an imaginative solution that only you can puzzle out, or perhaps we are meant simply to wait it out as the Four of Cups indicates.
This spread never fails to have a particular ebb and flow to it, as the cards play off of each other to reveal layers of application. Take these wisdoms into your week ahead all you lovely folks, and have a blessed time of it. ✨
