Types of copper and how we classify the metal
#1 Copper: To earn this classification, the metal should be comprised of bus bars, copper pipe. It also must be clean in appearance, unalloyed, and uncoated no paint, solder or oil. Scrap copper #1 has a minimum copper content of at least 98%. copper
#2 Copper. This grade of copper can be identified by its somewhat dirty appearance. It should be comprised of miscellaneous unalloyed wire, pipe or solid metal that continues to have solder, paint, oil or any kind of coating on it. Additionally, its minimum copper content should be 94-96%.
Bare Bright Copper Wire. To earn this classification just like its name must be bright and shinny. No oil, paint, oxidation or burnt dark copper must be bright and shinny like a new penny. copper content should be 99.9%
