There are few things that make me happy like the color pink. So pink Double Bubble hits me right in the best part of my soul. I’m in a season of painting all the sweetness I can find…maybe I’m trying to chase the sweet part of life or find it or reinvent…I don’t know. But what I do know is the reason I’m painting it is because I’m trying to figure it out.

“My pockets-1997”
16x20
Watercolor and gold leaf, varnished and framed
Seeing lots of posts of seniors graduating and remembering the excitement that that day came with. The world was wide open and we could go anywhere and do anything.
But simultaneously it was a celebration of the friendships that had carried me to that day too. It was the summer of 1996…it was filled with driving with the windows down blasting a lot of Nirvana, a ton of Phish and the Grateful Dead and all the mix tapes we made for eachother.
We hung out in cul de sacs of yet to be built new developments, drove to concerts in other state and savored that last summer like we were never going to get it back.
Funny how we knew…this was the last time we would be together like this and we made it count. I regret nothing about that wild summer and the people I spent it with.
Some are still my closest friends and others have faded off into life but always remain in my memories.
The summer I graduated from high school had to be the best summer of my 47 years…I’d give a lot to go back to those days and people even if just for a night.
“Most of our childhood is stored not in photos, but in certain biscuits, lights of day, smells, texture of the carpet.”
Or in my case…the smell of play doh or the feel of that ridge down the front of a Barbie leg. My teen years are wrapped up in the taste of coffee in my celestial mug and smell of ci******es in a diner.
Seeing all of these pieces hanging on one wall is a pretty awesome experience for me. This display encompasses watercolor paintings from several collections but there is always an underlying thread that connects them all to eachother and I can see it when I walk down this walk despite the fact that I can’t put it into words. It took me a long time time to let go of other’s expectations of my paintings and do it my way but the last few years of painting what I want and how I want to has rendered the best art of my life to date. I’ll say it even though we’re supposed to be humble…I’m proud of myself and this body of work. I worked my ass off to create these paintings and I’m so proud to share them with you all from the creation stages and behind the scenes stuff in my stories and reels to the REAL TALK posts where I break down the inspiration for various paintings. Just feeling incredibly grateful for so many things today. If you want to visit my girls or make one of them your’s visit
I always wanted to be an artist—and truth is, I always was.
There’s no official arrival, no benchmark you have to meet. You either are, or you aren’t.
The path to where I am now was anything but straight, but every twist and turn shaped the artist I’ve become—and for that, I’m grateful.
Reels are king…why am I doing this?
