Tonight, Chief Gary Manna of the Fairfield Police Department presented a Meritorious Service Citation to Hackensack Police Detective Michael Reo for his actions during the August 22 incident.

The presentation took place during the Fairfield Township Council meeting, with the Hackensack Police Department command staff and several members of the department in attendance to support Detective Reo.

Congratulations, Detective Reo, and thank you for your professionalism, dedication, and service.

Please be advised that on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from approximately 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the State Department of Transportation (DOT), in conjunction with Bergen County, will be closing the Court Street Bridge to conduct a scheduled inspection.

• Do not drive or walk through flooded water. Floodwater can hide downed power lines, debris, and dislodged or raised manhole covers. Turn around and choose another route.
• Never operate a generator inside a home, garage, or enclosed space due to carbon monoxide risks.
• If you smell gas, leave immediately, move at least 350 feet away, and call PSE&G at 1-800-880-PSEG (7734) or 911.

At last night’s PBA meeting, PBA Local 9 was proud to honor Detective Michael Reo in recognition of his exemplary service.

Detective Reo was recognized for his courageous and selfless actions while off duty, coming to the aid of a fellow officer during an incident in Fairfield on August 22. His actions assisted in the apprehension of an armed suspect and the recovery of a loaded handgun.

We are proud to recognize Detective Reo for his commitment to his fellow officers and his continued dedication to the safety of our community.

On September 22, 2026, officers responded to the Riverside Square Mall on the report of possible gunshots in the mall. Upon arrival, it was discovered that no gunshots had occurred, but rather a suspect entered Bloomingdale’s and smashed a display case, stealing various jewelry items inside. The sound of the case shattering caused multiple patrons in the mall to contact 911, reporting gunshots. The suspect has not been apprehended as of this time and the matter remains under investigation. 

No injuries occurred during the theft and the matter is being investigated by Hackensack Detectives. Chief Antista would like to thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, Regional SWAT team, and surrounding agencies for their prompt response and assistance in this matter. The mall has since resumed normal operations and there is no cause for public alarm at this time.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of DEILY E. PEREZ of the Bronx, NY, and CHILLYANN V. SPENCER of Paterson, NJ, on charges of endangering the welfare of a child. The arrests were the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Hackensack Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Antista.

On Friday, September 11, 2026, the Division of Child Protection & Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged physical assault of two juveniles at a daycare center in Hackensack, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department revealed that DEILY E. PEREZ and CHILLYANN V. SPENCER, both teacher’s assistants, physically abused two juveniles on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, DEILY E. PEREZ and CHILLYANN V. SPENCER were arrested in Hackensack, NJ, and charged with two counts each of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2). DEILY E. PEREZ and CHILLYANN V. SPENCER were remanded to the Bergen County Jail and had their first appearances in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ, where they were ordered released on Friday, September 18, 2026, pending further court action.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the Hackensack Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
