Please enjoy these photos capturing Captain Bill Sheehan, Isaiah Leach, and Tyler Tierney’s annual journey down the Arthur Kill with students from Carteret Junior High School as part of our Urban Watershed Education Program (UWEP). The day was filled with hands-on water quality testing and tours of one of the most significant stretches of water in the greater New York City region.

Special shout-out to our Project Manager, Jodi Jamieson, for spearheading our UWEP Program. Each year from May through June, Jodi works with eight schools located throughout our river and watershed, delivering this impactful program to hundreds of students.

The Arthur Kill is a tidal strait rich in maritime history and continues to play a vital role in regional shipping, logistics, recycling, waste management, and energy production. In between the industrial infrastructure, we were reminded of the area’s resilience—spotting countless Osprey nests, large flocks of Cormorants, a few graceful Herons, and even a pair of Bald Eagles!

For decades, corporations polluted the Passaic River while communities like Newark were left living with the consequences. To coincide with Newark’s annual River Day–which was rescheduled–Ironbound Community Corporation is hosting a community rally calling for polluters to pay and for the long-overdue cleanup of the Passaic River to begin, finally.

Join ICC to celebrate the River and demand its remediation!

Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Saturday for a beautiful day of aquatic recreation at our annual Reservoir Challenge!

Paddlers enjoyed rare access to the otherwise restricted waters of the Oradell Reservoir for a day of both competition and leisure. The morning featured 5K and 10K races, a friendly fun race, followed by an open paddle in the afternoon for those looking to take in the scenery at a more relaxed pace.

Alongside the paddling events, we partnered with the Hudson River Fishermen's Association to host a catch-and-release fishing tournament for kids targeting largemouth bass, white perch, crappie, and bluegill.

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the day a success—especially Veolia - Water North Jersey for their invaluable support, and Inserra Super Markets for generously providing sandwiches for all participants.

A special thank you as well to the Haworth Volunteer Fire Department, Haworth Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Haworth Police Department, New Milford Fire Department, and Holy Name for ensuring a safe and enjoyable day on the water.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us for our annual EarthFest celebration yesterday! Even with record-breaking temperatures, the clear skies and steady breeze made for a fantastic day to celebrate clean water and environmental awareness.

With 48 incredible vendors and more than 3,000 enthusiastic attendees, the energy throughout the day was electric. Smiles were everywhere as guests explored vendor booths, paddled along Overpeck Creek, discovered the wonders of science, and enjoyed a wide variety of fun games and activities.

We’re especially grateful to our dedicated volunteers and generous sponsors—your support made this celebration possible. We truly couldn’t do it without you.
