At the conclusion of last night's council meeting, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor engaged in a conversation with some PBA members. During this discussion, the Deputy Mayor expressed that when we requested a meeting with them in the beginning of 2024, she wanted to meet with us. After some back and forth, members clarified that she refused to meet unless City Attorney Steve Kleinman was present. I believe it's important to set the record straight here. Emails prove it was not the Unions that refused the meeting, the Unions requested the meeting. We even offered to have them attend and listen to our concerns without speaking, but they declined that as well.

The Mayor then told another PBA member that he did not call us the enemy and said "aiding the enemy." A video clip from that council meeting shows how we were treated and it is very clear what was said that night.

The Labrosse Team and the City continue to perpetuate a false narrative about a "Culture of Corruption" within the police department. I question if the City truly believes that the police department has this type of culture wouldn't the people they hired for the past 12 years be to blame? They also accuse a select few supervisors of taking advantage of residents, who are also taxpayers. Once again, the city pushes a false narrative that Supervisors "fleeced" the taxpaying residents, however they forget to state that extra duty details are not funded by taxpayer money—the company hiring the officer is responsible for the payment. There was nothing illegal or improper happening. Additionally, had the Mayor and Council actually met with us, they would have learned that adjusting schedules, for many reasons, has been a longstanding practice within the Hackensack Police Department for over 30 years.

It is both disappointing and unfair that when the Unions attempted to address these issues, our elected officials shut us down. Now, with the election just 62 days away, the City seeks to open lines of communication. We only wish they had taken us seriously when we first reached out.
