On Wednesday 09/02/2020 at 05:19 PM Merced County Fire Department, Gustine Fire Department, Gustine Police Department and PG&E responded to a commercial vehicle accident, with fire, with powerlines down at the intersection of Highway 33 and Highway 140 in Gustine CA. Upon arrival of the fire department, the cab of the big rig was fully involved with direct flame impingement on the unknown cargo. In addition, powerlines had fallen on and previously energized the cab and trailer of the big rig, which was the initial ignition source of the fire. The energized vehicle posed a life safety threat to responding fire personnel. The first portion of the incident was spent assessing multiple life safety concerns for the public and first responders at scene. Upon further assessment and additional equipment arriving at scene, the life safety concerns were mitigated, and full suppression of the fire took place. Highway 33 was closed till early in the morning of 09/03/20.

Gustine Fire has been assisting the City of Gustine with a water main pipe leak near Hwy 33. The leak has been repaired, however the city is advising residents to boil their drinking water until further notice. A Code Red message has just been sent to residents that have signed up for the emergency notifications, and they are posting additional info on their page. Once the city has received water samples that the water is safe to drink, another notice will be given.
