One more note worthy thing to celebrate ... got the annual "salad bar" planted! Grow baby grow!

Update on Arya....

Day 2 wow look at this! I can't believe how fast the Baytril works!! Literally all the infection is gone from site. Granted I will continue treating for the full cycle of antibiotics but this is the fastest I've ever seen an abscess heal especially one that was this large. I started this thinking it was a 50/50 shot of her recovering but now I have no doubt she will be fine.
All swelling is gone and the scar tissue is pink and healthy. If y'all don't have the Baytril injectable in your vet kit it's definitely worth the expense of getting it!! I've used the oral before (oxytetracycline HCL) but it's really hard on the intestinal tract and usually causes secondary problems like diarrhea and dehydration and it has to be administered for a week or more before you see any substantial improvement. Also with oral medication it's a tricky balance of getting the animal to drink it and be sure they are actually getting a decent dose vs dripping out or the rabbit refusing to drink it from the taste. Anyway just my humble opinion.

UPDATE: 3 yoa giant chin doe.
For those of you following the treatment on this does giant abscess

24 hrs hrs after initial treatment....here are the photos after flushing the wound at 7am and again at 7pm. There is significant healing going on! Ironically I ran into our vet at the feed store today who told me the only thing they could have done differently was to administer an IV and then proceeded to tell me if I'd like to purchase the materials to do it myself they would sell them to me. I don't think an IV is necessary since she is eating and drinking just fine. I plan on leaving the drain open for at least another 10 days and doing the saline flush 2x/day. I will also do another .5cc injection of Baytril tomorrow. (Every other day for 10days) dressed with bacitrin but no bandage. We have her in a controlled environment so no worry about flies or other animals bothering her. Please if you have questions or answers/advise I welcome the comments and dialog!

So 2/28/17 we find that our
3yoa giant chin, proven doe has an issue! Seems otherwise healthy but for the giant sub-cutaneous abscess on the top of her head! This thing is the size of a golf ball! Lanced it, squeezed a golf ball size of puss paste out. Then totally irrigated and removed all puss and necrotic tissue and packed with bacitrin. Then stitched her partially back up leaving a 1/4" open to flush and drain it. Administered .5cc of baytril intramuscular (13lbs)
I have her isolated in the garage and away from flies and gave her some additional Black sunflower seeds for calories to help heal. Will keep this site posted with updates for those of you in Back Yard Meat Rabbits that have requested. Feel free to comment and ask questions.

This is just a couple of the bucket portable garden. The spaghetti squash is going nuts even had to add a cage for some support. But as you can see both the summer squash and the zucchini are not too far behind. I will post more on the "bucket garden" soon as we get them moved over to the new location!

The new chicken condo! It barely made it through the maze of trees and fence to back yard. We got spoiled chickens!
