The Quiet Force Behind Troop 444, Mr Dietz:

While the public marveled at the rope bridge during our Strawberry Social, few probably realized it was Mr Dietz’s decades of Scouting knowledge that helped make it happen.

Mr Dietz has spent more than 45 years in Scouting, 35 years of those as a leader! Long after his own sons aged out of the program, he continues to regularly show up for Troop 444 teaching knots, demonstrating the EDGE method, mentoring youth leaders, and sharing the skills that can’t be learned by reading the handbook alone.

Thank you for all you do, Mr Dietz. The troop is stronger because of you! ⚜️

We were overwhelmed by the support shown for our Scouts and the school jazz bands, and we loved seeing neighbors, friends, and families come together to enjoy a beautiful day on the Green.

One of the highlights was hearing so many stories about Strawberry Socials from years gone by and memories of Scouting in our town. Those conversations reminded us how special these traditions are and how they connect generations of community members.

Half an hour until the fun begins! Troops are getting their marching orders for the day.

The 56th Annual Strawberry Social is almost set upon the Green! We have many activities for all ages- a rope bridge, fishing instruction, tents, and live music!! And of course, delicious strawberries, biscuits, ice cream, and whipped cream!

Today we remember the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for America.

On Saturday, Troop 444 assisted the VFW in laying flags at the graves of Guilford’s veterans. This small act of service reminds us that freedom is never free.

Last weekend, Troop 444 took part in America's Semiquincentennial Camporee at Camp Workcoeman!

Scouts completed 12 different challenges to help gather intel for General Washington in his fight for independence. The adults also participated, but as loyalists(!), to decode Benedict Arnold's cipher.

When they weren’t busy fighting for freedom, our Scouts were cooking up meals the Continental Army would’ve happily traded rations for.

The boys brought the energy. The leaders brought 30-year-old hacky sack muscle memory. Because sometimes the traditions passed down at Scout meetings involve camping skills… and sometimes they involve hacky sack circles.

Troop 444 spent the weekend on 12–14 inches of solid ice, ice fishing, and proudly cooking the trout we caught. In between checking tip ups, we trudged through deep snow on our hike — then made up for it by "sledding" across the ice, where friction is optional.

In a bold display of “earning it the hard way,” we even dug a snow shelter so our resident recent Eagle Scout could sleep in it.

It looks like we’ve got about 12–14+ inches again… except this time it’s on top of the ice instead of under our boots.
