Spelling and reading support each other. If your child is a struggling reader with an IEP or an EIP, request a spelling inventory (make sure to get a copy) and ask for an intervention to be direct instruction on the missing spelling patterns.
Contact me for assistance with foundational assessments, ways to support your child at school and home, or tutoring sessions.

It's that time of year when you find out your child's scores.
Be aware that scores can underestimate OR overestimate your child's abilities. Each of those could result in your child missing out on important (explicit) instruction.
Your child's assessment should consist of more than digital assessments. Assessments should happen more than one day a week and they should be developmentally appropriate.
Ensure that your child is getting a solid foundation so they can be successful! One way to ensure that is using the time you have at home on meaningful and proven strategies.
I provide assessments for foundational reading skills and provide a plan that can be used by parents, tutors, teachers, or RTI/IEP teams.

Is My Kid Learning How to Read? Part 2: Our Friend “Ur” 08/02/2024

Advocate for your child to get the instruction they need to become excellent readers and writers. If your child struggles to read the words, they have nothing left for comprehension. This is called the cognitive load. If they are laboring through a book, it's no surprise they can't answer what should be simple questions.
Message for more information if your child struggles to decode (read) words.

Exciting news! 🎉

I'm thrilled to announce the soft opening of The Mapping Mentor; check out this photo of my cozy office and (optional) waiting room!

Your child's assessments will take place in my office and parents are welcome to remain in the room. Since some children perform better without a parent nearby, you have the option to wait comfortably in this sitting area right next to the office!

I offer strategic literacy assessments to early readers grades K-3rd. Message me here to schedule a conference and find out how getting your child assessed is the first step to them becoming a fluent reader!

Help Your Struggling Reader Succeed with a Phonics Screener!

As a parent, you want to see your child succeed in school and beyond. However, if your child is struggling with reading, it can be difficult to know where to turn. One option that has proven effective for many struggling readers is a phonics screener.

A phonics screener is a tool that assesses your child's understanding of phonics, which is the foundation of reading. By identifying areas where your child may be struggling, a phonics screener can help you and your child's teacher tailor instruction to better meet your child's needs.

Here are just a few of the benefits of getting a phonics screener for your struggling reader:

Early Identification: A phonics screener can identify reading difficulties early on, allowing for timely intervention and support.

Personalized Instruction: By pinpointing your child's specific needs, a phonics screener can help teachers personalize instruction to better meet your child's needs.

Improved Reading Skills: With targeted instruction, struggling readers can improve their reading skills and gain confidence in their abilities.

Long-Term Success: Strong phonics skills are the foundation of reading, and improving these skills can lead to long-term success in school and beyond.

Don't let your child struggle with reading any longer. Contact me for an initial consultation and give your child the support they need to succeed!
