The Berger Road Daily Parade has ended.

Every day, Bonnie Blue Pooch would head out to enjoy her walks along Berger Road. She loved other animals — and other animals loved her — so it was always amusing to see which of the unruly creatures would run up to join her as we paraded down the road. One of my favorite things was to snap a photo of her on a walk with friends. Young James Virgil Harrison the Lamb would end up being the last bottle baby that she would mentor on the farm, after more than a decade of helping me look after newborns that needed help. She was smart, she was loving, she looked into your soul with her beautiful blue eyes, and she was my best friend.

While her tally of rallying newborn lambs & goats to survive was quite impressive, her greatest success was keeping me going. Bonnie was the reason I got out of bed even on the roughest mornings. She was the living being that shared my home & my bed for years, and her love was a balm no matter the wound. I will never be the same person I was before Bonnie, and the transition to a life without her is a rough one.

Bonnie Blue Harrison passed with grace & peace on her comfy bed in her farmhouse, surrounded by people who loved her. She had a remarkable journey. Despite the challenges of aging, she still loved people, walks, and treats until the very end. Bonnie only had one bad day, and it was on her timeline that we said goodbye. I take comfort in the idea that she is reunited with her best friend Augustus Pyrenees. Bonnie leaves an extraordinary legacy. She touched so many lives. It has been amazing to me to realize that very few people remember this farm without Bonnie. Or a Katherine without Bonnie.

While looking through family photos for the recent Celebration of Life for my Aunt Janet, this picture captured my attention. It was likely taken by mother, since she is not in the photo. We are enjoying a family picnic in the area across the road from the farmhouse, which my grandmother referred to as “The Park”. It is a brief moment at a casual family gathering, and I keep thinking about it.

On the far left is Uncle Bill. Properly, he was my grandmother’s uncle, and thus my great-great-uncle. We would often play monopoly or checkers together (he let me make the rules), or we would have adventures playing in the creek as he tossed in pennies so I could find “treasure”. My grandparents are in the center of the photo, both of them with such beautiful smiles. This image captures the happiness I recall from them. Auntie & Uncle Lee sit to the right of the image. They are home from Saudi Arabia for a visit, which was always an absolute joy for me. I sit in my child’s size folding chair, lifting my cup to toast the world with all my youthful panache. The picture itself is a happy memory — but the bittersweet part is that I am the only one in this photo still in this world.

The legacy of my family informs everything that I do as a farmer. It meant so much to me to have abundant support from my friends and from Auntie’s friends as I prepared for her Celebration of Life at the farm. Elsa & Austin went above and beyond helping at the farm. Kaitlyn & Sydnie assisted me with the program. Pam, Billi, Jenna, and Kat helped with the refreshments. Emma, Maddie, and Connor helped me honor Auntie by speaking at the service in her honor. It was a memorial unlike any other, and a truly unique tribute to a one-of-a-kind woman. James Virgil the Lamb wore his tie, Benedict the Turkey kept showing off to the crowd, and Laura the Goat tried to eat the flowers. I hope Auntie would love that all the creatures of the farm wanted to be a part of her celebration!

I am so extraordinarily blessed to be surrounded by amazing people. I think Auntie would absolutely love that the Harrison Farm team all stepped up to honor her legacy, in the Hangar built by her father, on the farm where she was raised. Harrison Farm truly is a family farm, we just all have different last names.

A year ago, little Esperanza Katerina Bonita was gearing up to make her Goat Yoga debut. Now this precocious little lady is the proud mother of twins Bambi & Zane, and Esperanza would love to introduce you to her adorable offspring. Well — she wants you to hold them, so she can have a few moments of peace from her chaos twins! 🤣🐐🐐

Goat Yoga with Dana Bernstein is a magical life-changing experience. It is the fusion of relaxing yoga, hooligan behavior from the unruly creatures, and the opportunity to connect with farm life. Harrison Farm is a real working farm, that focuses on education & agritourism, while honoring the circle of life and empowering the next generation of agriculturalists. It is my home, it is my dream, and I would love to share it with you!

Message the farm to register for our May dates, or any of our upcoming Goat Yoga classes. ❤️🐐🧘🏻‍♀️👩🏻‍🌾

Happy May! Our Farm Stand resumes its Sunday hours this weekend! Each Sunday afternoon 1-3pm May through September, guests are welcome to stop by the farm to visit the animals and pick up products at our Farm Stand. No RSVP is necessary and there is no cost to visit during this time.

We have lots of farm fresh chicken, duck, and turkey eggs currently available! Turkey eggs?!? Yes, you read that correctly. Female turkeys need to be at least a year old to start laying. Since most turkeys are a part of Thanksgiving celebrations, it is rare to have adult females who are kept for egg production. Our first turkeys were essentially failed 4H projects, of whom I grew incredibly fond. Olivia Colman & Dame Judi Dench the Turkeys (Broad Breasted Black turkeys) began laying eggs last year. Turkey eggs are incredibly creamy, and distinctive for their precious brown freckles on the shell. This year, our newer turkeys (Bourbon Reds) Rose, Forrester, Angel, Pappy, and Tracy have begun to lay eggs, so we have enough to share with our community.

Stop by our Farm Stand this Sunday for farm fresh chicken and duck eggs, or pick up the special sampler with 4 chicken, 4 duck, and 4 turkey eggs. Our big daddy turkey Woodford would love to welcome you to the farm with his majestic dance moves!

Happy 1st Birthday to Esperanza! I never dreamed I would be celebrating this superstar’s birthday, AND sharing the amazing good news of her motherhood at the same time. One week ago today, Esperanza gave birth to beautiful twins: Bambi & Zane. She is flourishing as a mother, and I am tremendously proud (and relieved 😅).

Esperanza Katerina Bonita is an icon. She has more personality than most creatures, and she has trained me well to provide her desired quality of life. From tiny bottle baby, she has grown into the Queen of Shenanigans, and now a strong maternal force.

Want to meet Esperanza’s beautiful babies Bambi & Zane?

Goat Yoga kicks off in May! Join us on 5/17 or 5/31 for yoga at 9:30 or 11:30.

Open Farm Sundays resume the first weekend of May! Each Sunday 1-3pm from May to September, our Farm Stand will be open and guests are welcome to stop by the farm. Purchase some farm fresh eggs, and get complimentary goat snuggles!

Private tours are available by appointment, and this gives you the opportunity to meet lots of Harrison Farm animals — and enjoy all the ridiculous stories of the Fearless Female Farmer.

Happy Birthday to Her Majesty Esperanza! And happy One Week Birthday to her beautiful twins!

My grandfather Virgil Harrison was born on this date in 1919. I am who I am because of this man’s belief in me.

We spent the anniversary of his birth doing some heavy duty farming. Bottle babies were fed, eggs were gathered, daily chores were completed, a rogue mama hen & her newly hatched chicks were rescued, rabbit pens were all deep cleaned, Christmas trees were unwrapped & fed to the goats, egg orders were picked up, animal towels were washed, errands were completed, a bonfire cleaned up more Christmas tree stumps (in a brief window after the burn ban/before the storm), and a lot of time was spent catching up with my amazing intern team. It was a great day at the Harrison Farm!

What I do today is thanks to having my grandfather as a role model. He taught me to respect each animal and show care at every stage of its journey. He illustrated to me the importance of perseverance and grit. He inspired me to love reading and history. He made it clear that there was nothing which limited me as a girl, and that I could achieve whatever I set my mind to doing. He gave me a safe haven and a ready hug when I needed it.

My work today — as a farmer, as a mentor, and as a writer — is all a credit to this extraordinary man who believed in me.

Dear friends, on the afternoon of Saturday 16 May we will host a celebration of my aunt’s life at the Harrison Farm. I would be honored to have you join us as we honor her life and share memories of this remarkable woman. She began her life at Harrison Farm, traveled all over the world, and then found her peace back home on the farm. We had a tradition that we would always go out to lunch for her January birthday once spring arrived — as she was not a fan of cold weather. Thus, it feels fitting to host the “Celebration of Auntie” as warmer weather arrives.

Celebration of Auntie
Saturday 16 May 2026
Gathering 1:30
Service 2:00
Refreshments to follow
The Hangar at Harrison Farm

After two challenging months of mourning, a brutal winter, and a very tough lambing season, I finally found the words to reflect on the impact Auntie had on my life. You can find this piece at the Fearless Female Farmer Substack (link in comments). Auntie lived a fascinating life, and I look forward to welcoming her friends to the farm to remember her!

They can steal my photo and they can copy my address, but sadly they cannot properly capitalize “Farm”. 😆

Friends, there is only one Harrison Farm on Berger Road, even if someone tries to flatter us by mimicry. If you have a moment to report this page, I would be grateful.

Top Reasons You Know “Harrison farm” is fake:

1) Lack of proper capitalization. One of my favorite books is Strunk & White’s Guide to Grammar (shockingly, I am a spinster 🤣). I would never knowingly release on you such poor use of the English language.

2) There is a tractor in the profile pic. If “Harrison farm” wants to pretend to be “Harrison Farm”, then I would like to borrow their tractor, as I cannot afford one. This became a joke recently, when a caller wanted to come be a farmer for a day. He asked if we had big equipment; I responded that I had an impressive pitchfork. He then wanted to know why I was being so silly with my answers. Alas, I was not, as the “Harrison Farm” budget only covers a pitchfork and a wheelbarrow. 💪🏻👩🏻‍🌾

3) “Harrison farm” posted that they are hiring at $80/hour for skilled farmwork. If so, I need to apply with them! The unruly goats of Harrison Farm still keep all the money, and refuse to pay me anything beyond snuggles. They maintain that baby goat snuggles are “priceless”!

We do not sell donkeys (another scheme that has used my address).

We do not sell steaks out of a truck (yep, someone claimed to be us).

We will never ask for a copy of your Driver’s license for a job, as the fake “Harrison farm” did to the young lady in Ontario who alerted me.

Our core values are honesty, integrity, and loyalty. I take this seriously. I am transparent that my animals are poorly behaved, my volunteer team is absolutely amazing, and I am a hot mess of a goatherd who is trying every day to be a better human. I am grateful for our amazing community of supporters who believe in the work I do as a farmer and a mentor. I hope the people who try to hide behind our name and address will come to recognize their own gifts & abilities, instead of using our image. And I hope that if they continue to do so, they will keep using pictures that make me look good in a dress! 😂👸🏻💃🏻
