The slow mindful lessons of NeuroMovement are wonderful for vagal tone. It was one of the biggest impacts that I had during my training.

While raising kiddos with big emotions, and myself barely sleeping for roughtly 7 years, my nervous system was on fire. I felt the buzzing motor of anxiety.

And you know that line in the Avengers where Bruce Banner says "that's my secret, I'm always angry"? Yeah, that was me too. Even when I appeared happy, there was the constant, underlying current of rage, wanting to burst out.

Many symptoms of ADHD all from kids with brains on fire, and lack of sleep. The weight of parenthood.

But NeuroMovement lessons calmed me. I learned how to let go of muscle contractions that I didn't even know were there. Muscles squeezing my vagus nerve that travels through the center of my body.

What a journey it’s been… looking back it feels like we were totally different people to who we are today. I felt so alone, I was scared of what was to come. I was constantly hearing she is too young, she will grow out of it. Completely disregarding my concerns. At first I generally thought many autistic children would be similar it was only around the time Harriet was diagnosed. I realise Harriet was extremely clear and obvious she was autistic but still I was getting these comments? Thinking can people not see?? Harriet was diagnosed first appointment, it was the day where I felt a huge relief. They could see!! Not only did they straight away acknowledge Harriet’s disabilities but they knew Harriet needs were very high for her age. Unfortunately I didn’t know even when Harriet was diagnosed and had a sen school I would still have comments such as she will talk soon, if you do this she will stop, have you tried this… Or even trying to say that because they knew an autistic child Harriet would do the same as them. I openly admit I was once in denial, I didn’t think Harriet was autistic because I didn’t want her to be…. It scared me constantly wondering what my daughter’s future would hold. Admitting to myself that Harriet needed extra support and was autistic was the best decision I ever made. This video by Sylvia is a great collection of examples of what ABM NeuroMovement looks like. This little girl is learning awareness of her body, through small movements. And her brain and nervous system are putting the pieces together so that she can gain more functionality throughout. These lessons are so gentle, and so POWERFUL. Truly transformational. ☺️
