When no pain or swelling accompanies the sound, noisy joints are normal and usually not an indication of a problem. However, in perimenopause and menopause joint pain can happen due to lowering estrogen levels. This joint and muscle pain will often lead us to believe we should move less, which is the opposite of what the body needs. Exercise strengthens muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones, which can counter and balance our estrogen loss.

I’ve just completed an intensive course through The Neuro Studio/Pilates for Neurological Conditions. It was an excellent continuing educational opportunity - learning to use exercise to improve balance, weakness, muscle spasticity/rigidity, bladder issues, and gait abnormalities for people with neurological conditions like MS, Parkinson’s or stroke.

Improper breathing mechanics can lead to compression of the lower spine. When the pelvis tilts forward and the diaphragm tilts back (typical poor posture), each breath, instead of creating stability for the spine, creates compression.
