Newton Baroque: Johann Gottlieb Graun - C Minor Trio, Allegro 05/24/2019

We have developed a new high efficiency workflow to support production of live performance videos. Instead of utilizing a double system methodology which requires a significant amount of work in post, we now utilize audio interfaces with on board DSP and digital mixing to send a high resolution stereo signal directly to camera with zero latency.
My Canon HD video cameras also support direct line level inputs, bypassing their rather poor mic pres.
Here is a sample of a recording of a baroque chamber recital. The audio was straight from the video. No mixing or no syncing to reference track.
The result is high quality sound in sync to picture, so we can turnaround videos within days instead of weeks.

Super mics. These Earthworks QTC40s are without a doubt the most amazing condenser microphones I have ever used. Incredible resolution, sensitivity and accuracy. I used them as the main stereo pair to record a woodwind and piano concert last night.

Insanely good signal path. The Earthworks 1024 mic pre alongside my Grace m101, recording chamber music in Boston last night.

Testing an audio workflow for live streaming.
Tonight I did a test using a TASCAM hand held high resolution audio recorder to make a stereo recording of the Mirror Visions Ensemble, a classical vocal trio based in New York.
The audio turned out OK, but there is a problem in that the line out of the recorder delivers a feed with significant digital artifacts and distortion. In my planned workflow, the recorder's line out would feed audio to the live stream video camera. If it is distorted, the live stream will suck.
I am going to have to go back to the drawing boards to find another solution before going live.
This is why I test. Things might look good on paper, but not really work in production.

I realize it's been a while, but good things are about to happen.
I have been working on engineering and video enabling several podcasts.
I am also all over Live Streaming.
Stay tuned. More to come real soon.
