Thank you Cinema Greens for hosting our students to your greenhouse and very special thanks to Vaneesha Berry for giving us a tour of the greenhouse and telling us more about the operation. This summer has seen a great group of students and I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to teach each one of you.

I leave you all with just a few of my favorite reminders as you all begin to start your businesses, continue to keep taking classes, or have just graduated and are trying to figure out what you will do next:

1) Surround yourself with people whose eyes light up when they see you coming. Do this as you choose your next job, venture, or begin your business! Many of my personal and professional mentors have been a constant supply of support and encouragement and you need those too!

2) Slowly is the fastest way to get to where you want to be. It takes hard work, mentorship, determination, and many late nights in the field, greenhouse, or on the nursery pad to achieve the goals you wish.

3) “Keep running the race that is set before you”.

It’s been a joy and absolute pleasure and I appreciate each one of you.

Come see Southern Crescent Horticulture Program today at the Griffin+Spalding Family Field Day at Tyus Park. We are at Station #5 and will be talking about fruit and vegetable gardening and the importance of pollinators.

Thank you to Dr. Mark Czarnota on the University of Georgia Griffin Campus for hosting our Pest Management class. We were able to walk the campus and identify common weeds of the landscape.

It’s been a great week at SkillsUSA National Conference. Congratulations to Carter Payne, Jennifer Vinkos, and Ivan Arnold who won gold in Career Pathways: Agriculture/Natural Resources/ Food as well as Sabrina Harris who earned successful scores in Job Skills Demonstration Open where she demonstrated fruit tree grafting.
