Akanimo Cancer Foundation
A 501 (c) (3) approved non-profit, created to raise awareness and support for childhood cancer In June 2007, our lives changed forever. This cancer was rare.
A beautiful baby came into our lives. He was everything a parent would want and lived a full life like most kids usually do.
10 years later, our lives changed again, this time in the other direction. Our boisterous young man was diagnosed of cancer 4 months after his 10th birthday. So rare it has never before been on file as diagnosed in our home country of Nigeria. So rare even doctors would rac

Akanimo Cancer Foundation is a childhood cancer nonprofit totally dedicated to supporting children in treatment, advocacy, bereavement support and research. Our mission is simple - so long as childhood cancer exists and as long as it continues to take children’s lives, we will be in this fight. This is because we know first hand how it feels to have your child fight for their life and how it feels to lose that battle. Yes, we have been at the very extreme of this fight.
On this National Nonprofit Day, we want you to join this mission with us - because no child can fight alone and all hands need to be on deck. That is the only way we can stop this disease from stealing the futures of our children.

As summer gradually comes to an end, we celebrate the youthful exuberance and indefatigable spirit Lucille brought to our team. Her willingness to learn, prompt handling of tasks and curiosity made having her an enjoyable experience for us all.
So, everyone thank her for a job well done and wish her well as she leaves at the end of this week to begin a new school year next week.
Take the weekend one moment at a time.
Rest.
Breathe.
Hope.
Keep going. 🎗️
Wishing you and your family a peaceful weekend from all of us at Akanimo Cancer Foundation. 💛

💛 Meet the Founders Behind Akanimo Cancer Foundation 🎗️
Behind is a story of love, loss, courage, and a commitment to make a difference. This foundation was born from a deeply personal experience; the heartbreaking loss of their beloved son, Akanimo, to cancer.
Having walked the difficult and painful journey of childhood cancer themselves, the founders understand the fear, uncertainty, emotional pain, and challenges that families can face when a child is diagnosed with cancer.
But from their loss came a purpose.
They founded Akanimo Cancer Foundation with a hope that no parent would ever have to go through what they went through.
And where that cannot be prevented, no parent should have to go through it alone. 💛
Through awareness, education, community outreach, support, and advocacy, the foundation is committed to standing with children and families affected by cancer.
Their mission is rooted in a simple belief that "Every child deserves a chance. Every family deserves support. And no one should have to face childhood cancer alone".
What began from the pain of losing a son has become a legacy of hope for many other children and families. Today, as we continue to raise awareness and advocate for childhood cancer, we invite you to join us in keeping that hope alive.
🎗️ Remember Akanimo.
Support the mission.
Stand with families.
Give hope.

💛 Behind every childhood cancer survivor is a story of courage, resilience, dedicated healthcare professionals, and a community that refused to give up.
Every child who overcomes cancer reminds us why awareness, early diagnosis, quality healthcare, and family support are so important.
For children who are still in treatment, these stories remind them that there is hope.
For parents, they are a reminder that they are not alone.
For communities, they are a call to stand together for every child fighting cancer.
Let's celebrate every survivor and remember every child still on their journey.
Do you Know a childhood cancer survivor whose story could inspire others? Share their story (with their permission) or tag someone who continues to spread hope.

Early Diagnosis Matters because many childhood cancers respond well to treatment when they are diagnosed early.
Unfortunately, many families in Nigeria waste time before seeking medical care because sometimes most symptoms are mistaken for common childhood illnesses, and other times they are not able to financially bear the cost.
But delay has a negative impact on outcomes while Early diagnosis means:
✔ Better treatment outcomes
✔ Less intensive treatment in some cases ✔ Improved quality of life
✔ Greater chance of survival
So If something doesn't seem right, don't wait.

Warning Signs Every Parent Should Know
🚨 Children don't always have the words to explain how they feel. That's why parents and caregivers should pay attention to persistent symptoms.
Seek medical attention if a child experiences:
• Persistent fever
• Unexplained weight loss
• Frequent bruising or bleeding
• Persistent bone or joint pain
• Swollen lymph nodes
• Persistent headaches with vomiting
• White reflection in the eye
• Unusual tiredness
These symptoms do not always mean cancer, but they should never be ignored.
Early diagnosis improves the chances of successful treatment.
Save this post and share it with other parents. Awareness can save lives.

Many myths prevent families from seeking help early. Childhood cancers ARE NOT Contagious, they happen because of changes in cells not because they are contagious, caused by curses, or the result of something a child did.
Understanding the facts helps families seek treatment earlier and reduces stigma.
Knowledge saves lives.
Help fight misinformation by sharing this post. Someone in your network may learn something that could save a child's life.

Richard recently celebrated his 4th birthday. He also recently progressed successfully from Phase 4 to Phase 5 of his maintenance cycle for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. You made that possible by supporting the work we do. Richard has come a long way and still has a ways to go but we are hopeful that he will continue to do exceedingly well.
