For the theme of these shoots, here’s a mini history lesson on how the shaving practices of women began in the US.

It was only recently in the early 20th century when women began to shave their underarms and legs, and that was the direct result of Gillette and other razor companies attempting to broaden their market. To do this, they invested in ad campaigns that redefined femininity, pushing the concept that it was masculine and unhygienic if a woman didn’t have smooth, clean-shaven skin where visible, all to drive up profits.

This new social norm was catalyzed when the internet was born, and p**n, depicting pedophilc ideals of women with no bodily hair, infected how women were viewed and expected to look to be s*xually appealing.

All in all, to shave or not to shave should be a woman’s choice, not an societal expectation of beauty, and not to cater to a man (or woman’s) idea of appealing.

Fun fact: not shaving your hair increases the release of natural pheromones!
