This Needfire song has an interesting backstory. Its release on Christmas Eve 2024 happens to be the 12th wedding anniversary for Roy and his wife. What a nice anniversary gift! Also, the recorder melody was written by Ed four years before he ever heard the song. Finally, a five-year-old Eddie (recorded in 1978, the same year Ed and Roy's wives were born) appears on the song as well.

Lately I’ve been finding lots of things in my archives I had totally forgotten about. One was an article about me from the Sep- Oct 2013 edition of The Ceili publication. Since I mentioned one of the all time greatest bassists, Dave Pegg (Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull), I included an older photo of the time I got to meet him in Nashville.
More updates soon on how the new Needfire recordings are progressing! We’re working on 3 different types of EP’s and all are 100 percent Needfire 😁

It’s been a busy summer recording the next couple Needfire EP’s with multi-instrumentalist/vocalist/ songwriter Roy Fletcher. This past June we also performed live together (Needfire Acoustic) for the first time in 20 years!

Ed’s yearly instrument purchase! The tradition continues! Last year I got my second harpsichord, a hammered dulcimer, and a melodica. What’s this years new addition? Bagpipes! Made by the incredible Alban Faust from Sweden. Why not Scottish pipes you ask? Because I don’t play anything “normal.” These pipes allow me to play in several different major and minor keys which is something Scottish pipes don’t do so well. Incredibly excited!!
