Among the up-and-coming technologies are store-cleaning robots, voice technology to help answer customer service questions, and dynamic pricing that can fluctuate based on supply or demand. Some retailers are already using electronic shelf labels or tags, and another third is planning to do so. That makes it a lot easier to change prices on the fly. In just one year, retailers’ use of dynamic pricing software has risen from 18% to 28%, with another 31% using artificial intelligence to help set prices and promotions.

Two recent surveys show that the overwhelming majority of shoppers are looking for more ways to save. And if retailers and brands don’t respond by offering deals, shoppers are likely to adopt a more drastic method of saving – by scaling back their spending.
According to the retail research firm IRI, 90% of consumers surveyed said they’ve noticed higher prices at the grocery store over the last month, and 75% said they’ve made one or more changes in their grocery shopping habits as a result. That’s a big increase from the 64% who had made some spending changes just a month earlier.
No Deals? Then No Sale - Cautious Shoppers Are Cutting Back Most shoppers say they are cutting back on their spending, but might make an exception if they can get a good deal.
