"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat..."
When times are hard, asking for help shouldnāt come with shame. Everyone deserves access to nourishing, culturally appropriate food, and the care of community.
If you or someone you know needs support, there are tools that can help you find nearby food pantries, meal programs, and other local resources:
- Visit Feeding Americaās āFind Your Local Food Bankā https://hubs.ly/Q03Qy7Rx0 and enter your ZIP code to locate a food bank in your community.
- Use the Food Finder map to explore nearby food pantries, including addresses and hours. https://hubs.ly/Q03Qy6fS0
- You can also visit https://hubs.ly/Q03Qy7Kg0 to search for food programs and other community resources.
Phone Assistance:
- Call or text 211 to connect with a local specialist who can help you find food assistance and other support services in your area.
- National Hunger Hotline ā Call 1-866-3HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479) for help locating nearby meal sites, food banks, and social service programs.
Transportation issues:
- Many people experiencing hunger also face transportation barriers that make accessing grocery stores and food pantries difficult or impossible. DoorDash is rolling out an āEmergency Food Responseā in reaction to the potential disruption of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. They will deliver 1 million meals for free through their āProject DASHā network of 300+ foodbanks and pantries nationwide. Learn more here: https://hubs.ly/Q03Qy8WV0
Congregational Support:
- Local or regional foundations ā especially those suited to long-term sustaining of feeding programs and social services. Find possibilities in your area at https://hubs.ly/Q03Qyd1d0
- Manual of Best Practices for Food Pantries from Indy Hunger Network - https://hubs.ly/Q03QybTg0

Loving God, we lift up our prayers today for yet another community that now knows the brutal impact of gun violence. We pray for the lives that have been lost, those who have been injured, and the families that will be forever changed. As we remember those impacted, we renew our commitment to build safer communities for every beloved child of God.
For the non-Christian or harmed by church Christian looking in, so many Christians donāt represent Jesus well, and today many Christians and non-Christians will see hypocrisy on full display.
On this foundational day for Christianity, I know the harm so many have done under the name of Jesus. As Christians, we are called to two things; love the Lord your God with all you heart, mind and soulā¦and love your neighbor as yourself. When we fail our neighbor, we misrepresent Christ. Thatās on us. Thatās human failure.
But know,
ā
Hypocrisy isnāt Cesvs (Jesus).
Genocide isnāt Jesus.
Hate isnāt Jesus.
Misuse of power isnāt from Jesus.
Turning our eyes from our neighbor isnāt Jesus.
Slavery isnāt Jesus.
Committing and covering up abuse isnāt Jesus.
Removing provisions from the marginalized isnāt from Jesus.
Domination isnāt Jesus.
Empire is not Jesus.
ā
I believe thereās a difference between those who believe in Jesus and those who know Jesus. Believing in Jesus can lead to misusing and weaponizing His name. Knowing Him leads to centering loving our neighbor. Pursuing empire is the easier path. Building kingdom is the hard work of sacrifice and humility.
ā
Jesus challenged, encouraged, called out and called in people from every walk in this life. All humans with flaws, whether they acknowledged it or not, whether they felt they had flaws or not.
ā
Today is about a resurrection and I have to live my life representing my faith in Jesus Christ in the best way possible, daily. Iāll fail, get back up, and do my best to represent again.
ā
I donāt blame people who donāt want to step into a Christian space today. So many have done a pretty bad job. Our failures are not Jesusā example of how to live life and we need to be better at humility, grace, empathy and living out our faith.
ā
Mvto, Creator, Restorer, Mystery, for the resurrection.
ā
He is risen.
