One of my favourite parts about Katalyst is the incredible humans I get the opportunity to meet. People present in all shapes, sizes, abilities or disabilities and all have a story to share. I’m so grateful that many choose to share their stories with me. To let me in on a small part of their journeys. Bodywork is sooo much more than simply treating the physical. It’s a combination of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Seeing success in others means sooo much more than $$. ✌️🖤💪🏼🙏

Time to get real folks…. It took me 48 years, 4 months and 10 days! I said it today, and truly meant it! Like many I grew up as a son, a student, an athlete, an employee. I was fortunate enough to get married, have kids, and start a business. I set goals, and busted my ass to achieve them. I’ve worked hard. I’ve pursued perfection! Why, because I thought in perfection I’d get recognition, validation. Yet, recognition was embarrassing, praise not served or warranted. Today, after a moment of deep reflection I decided that seeking external praise has gotten me know where. I looked deep into my eyes, my soul and finally said “I’m proud of you man!”

Change can be sudden. Change can be inconvenient. Change can be difficult, disruptive, down right annoying!! Change can be good. Change can challenge. Change can stimulate growth.
I’m settling in and learning to love my new space. More room provides opportunity for more options. Stay tuned for new offerings from Katalyst!!

The human body is amazing. Designed for movement, an integrated combination of mobility as well as stability. “CORE” training has become one of the most misused, misguided methodologies in the fitness world. “CORE” training is not simply about blasting your abs at the end of each class, performing endless crunches/sidebends/planks whatever…. True inner unit function is a delicate balance of strength, stability and endurance. Overtraining one muscle group can lead to imbalances in the system and dysfunctional movement. Dysfunctional movement often leads to decreased performance, altered movement and potentially pain. If you isolate a muscle group, you must integrate it back into a movement pattern. Take home thoughts- question why you perform certain exercises. Is this a muscle that’s meant to be super strong, is this a muscle that needs endurance? What is the desired outcome from performing this exercise. Train with intelligence.

Movement is health, movement is medicine. The lack of movement, the inability to move, the fear of movement is a problem.
“If exercise could be purchased in pill form it would be the most widely prescribed and most beneficial medicine.” -ACSM
It all comes down to movement. Always has, always will. It’s that simple.

It’s not often that you get to peek behind the scenes. Life can be stressful, or a little challenging at times. Sometimes life recognizes that a little downtime is needed. I chose to take advantage of a schedule change by doing a little breath work, red light therapy, and a little lower abdominal activation/training. Downtime can be productive time! Rest and recovery is an important part of any training program!!

Always observing, always questioning, always learning. Structure, function, load bearing, cables, pulleys, balance…. Similar to the human body, a system functions optimally when everything is in proper alignment! Credit and thanks to Kraig Kramer for his knowledge and design work.

Race day!! I love the environment, the energy, the nervous anticipation, the excitement. I love being a spectator, the opportunity to watch others strive towards their goals. This year I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back, to volunteer. As I walked the site this morning I flashed back to my first IM and a vision of me working in the med tent…. I guess this is where I’m meant to be!

ADDICTED! 50g protein under 500cal. I’m always looking for easy, inexpensive, and effective ways to add protein to my daily fuel intake. A client recently turned me on to both of these products, which when put together (like yogurt w/granola) is sooo good!
