📰One Killed and Two Injured in Early Morning Traffic Crash📰

GREELEY, Colo. – On Monday, June 22, at approximately 5:20a.m., Greeley Police officers were dispatched to the 5800 block of 10th Street following reports of a two-vehicle traffic crash.

An initial investigation indicates that a Honda CR-V, driven by a 33-year-old woman, was traveling eastbound on 10th Street. The vehicle collided with a Chrysler sedan that was westbound on 10th St., driven by a 45-year-old woman.

First responders extricated both drivers from their vehicles and immediately initiated life-saving measures. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital, where the driver of the Honda CR-V succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Her name will be released by the Weld County Coroner’s Office pending next-of-kin notification.

A 38-year-old male passenger in the CRV was also transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. The driver of the Crysler was treated for her injuries and has since been released.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Anyone who has information on this case is urged to contact Officer Ed Kubala at [email protected]. No further details will be released today.

Today, we honor all the incredible fathers and father figures in our community. But we want to send a special salute to the men in blue who balance a dual role of service.

To our officers: You are our community's first line of defense, showing up with courage and dedication during the toughest moments. You are sworn to protect.

But we know that the badge is only part of your story. When the uniform comes off, you are dads, stepdads, grandfathers, and mentors. You are also sworn to provide, to comfort, and to guide the next generation.

Thank you for your sacrifice, your resilience, and for showing up, both on patrol and at home. Your families are your greatest achievement.

From all of us at the Greeley Police Department, Happy Father’s Day!

🔌🚲MOBILE GUIDEILNES: KNOW YOUR ZONES🔌🚲

Look, we get it. Riding an e-bike feels like you’ve been blessed with the legs of an Olympic athlete and the wind-resistance of a sleek cheetah. Zooming up hills without breaking a sweat is an absolute joy (especially in this ridonkulous heat).

But lately, some of our shared paths are starting to feel less like a peaceful Sunday stroll and more like the qualifying rounds of the Monaco Grand Prix. It is putting our riders and community at risk.

To keep the peace (and to prevent our NextDoor groups from launching literal pitchfork revolts), we’ve put together a quick, highly essential guide for knowing your zones.

Have a bicycle? We've got that covered.
E-bike? We've got the rules of the road for those, too.
E-scooter? Keep checking out our guide, it's in there.
Off-highway vehicles? There's laws for those, also!

So flip through our user-friendly guide to whichever wheeled transport applies to you and read over where you can and cannot ride!

And remember, ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET!

We extend our deepest condolences to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office as they navigate the tragic and sudden loss of a LSCO deputy, a sergeant and a family member. The bonds of this profession stretch across county lines, and we stand in solidarity with their agency and the families left behind. Rest in peace, heroes. 🕊️🖤

Larimer County, we’re heartbroken to share information about a sudden and tragic loss within our agency.

On June 16, an LCSO Deputy, Sergeant, and Sergeant’s family member were vacationing together on a motorcycle trip. The men were traveling on a North Idaho scenic highway when a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle in a marked no-passing zone. The truck crossed the double yellow centerline and collided with the motorcycles, killing all three riders.

The truck driver was arrested and booked into the Idaho County Jail on three counts of vehicular manslaughter. Idaho State Police are investigating this crash.

Out of respect for their families’ strong desire for privacy, we aren’t identifying the deputies at this time.

There are no good words in a situation like this. Put simply, these were incredible people who dedicated their lives to making Larimer County better every single day. They trained hard, they served well, and they loved life. As we walk the long and winding path of grief alongside their families, our resolve is stronger than ever:

For them, we’ll bring light into dark places.
For them, we’ll stand for good and fight against evil.
For them, we’ll live each day with gratitude and carry their legacy forward.

Rest easy, brothers. We’ve got it from here. 💙

🐾PAWS vs. PAVEMENT🐾

The summer heat has officially arrived, which means the ground is sizzling! A comfortable 75° day for you translates to 125° asphalt on their little toe beans.

Before you head out for a walk with your furry friends, remember this simple rule: If it's too hot for your feet, it's too hot for their paws.

Quick Tips:
🕰 Time it right: Take your pets for their walks early in the morning or late in the evening, when the ground has had time to cool down.
🌱Stick to the grass: Avoid asphalt and concrete. Look for shady, grassy routes instead.
👢Gear up: Consider protective dog booties if walking on pavement is unavoidable.

Let's keep our pets safe, happy and burn-free this summer!

📰Man Arrested for Bank Robbery📰

GREELEY, Colo. – On Thursday, June 11, at approximately 6:15 a.m., Greeley Police officers responded to East Memorial Park following reports of an unwanted individual camping on the property. Officers arrived and contacted 35-year-old Itzae Mares. Mares was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Weld County Jail with charges of municipal camping and obstruction. He was released on summons a few hours later.

Shortly after his release from jail, Mares allegedly stole a bicycle, spray-painted a toy cap gun to look like a real firearm, and entered the Chase Bank located in the 4700 block of 29th Street. Mares utilized the spray-painted toy gun to rob the financial institution and fled the scene on the stolen bicycle.

Greeley Police Department Special Enforcement Team (SET) and patrol officers searched the area immediately following the robbery. Thanks to a rapid and coordinated response, officers spotted and contacted Mares in the 3800 block of Centerplace Drive.

Mares was taken into custody without further incident. At the time of his arrest, he was still in physical possession of the realistic replica firearm and the stolen bank cash, totaling $2,000.

He was booked into the Weld County Jail, on charges of aggravated robbery and felony theft.

Anyone who has information on this case is urged to contact Detective Brian Hunziker at [email protected]. This is an ongoing investigation, and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No further details will be released today.
