One-hundred years ago from the pages of the Greeley Tribune-Republican newspaper for the second week of December.
"A raging fire that started at 11 p.m. Friday destroyed the Macy Undertaking business, causing $12,000 to $15,000 in damage. Two women in caskets, awaiting funerals, were rescued without damage. No living person was in the building when the fire spread from the basement furnace.
In other news...
Frederick citizens are apparently brewing their own wine. Labeled "D**o Wino," the miners bought 5,000 pounds of grapes this week and families will begin making their own wine. The wine is considered very strong, and an inexperienced tippler will get the "Jim Jams." It is not illegal to make your own wine."
