Feedback works best when trust comes first.
Giving feedback is one of the most important, and sometimes most challenging, parts of leadership. 💛
I’ve found that people are often more open to feedback when they know you genuinely see and value their contributions.
When someone feels appreciated for what they’re doing well, they’re often more willing to hear where they can improve and continue growing.
Starting with what someone is doing well isn’t about avoiding difficult conversations.
It’s about creating a foundation of trust and respect.
And trust creates the space for honest conversations, growth, and development.
What’s the best feedback you’ve ever received?

One of the things I love about this work is that it constantly reminds me how different we all are. 💛
Some people think out loud.
Some need time to process.
Some jump into action.
Others want more information first.
None of those approaches are wrong.
The more we understand how we’re wired, the easier it becomes to communicate, collaborate, and build stronger relationships.
That’s one of the reasons strengths work continues to fascinate me after all these years.

Yesterday, I shared that one of my favorite parts of this work is helping people recognize their strengths and see new possibilities.
What I’ve learned is that those conversations don’t happen because I have all the right answers.
They happen because people feel heard.
Some of the most meaningful conversations I’ve had, with clients, leaders, team members, friends, and family, started with listening.
Putting distractions away. Asking one more question. Staying curious a little longer.
When people feel heard, trust grows. Understanding deepens. And that’s often where growth begins.
What’s one thing someone has done that made you feel truly heard? 💛
One thing I’ve learned over the years: people are capable of so much more than they sometimes give themselves credit for. 💛
I love having conversations that help people recognize their strengths, build confidence, and see new possibilities.
That’s what keeps me coming back.

Happy Birthday to my younger (and much taller 😆) brother!
We’ve shared so many great memories over the years, and I’m incredibly lucky to have you as my brother. Thank you for always showing up, cheering me on, and celebrating my business wins and accomplishments as if they were your own.
Your support means more than you know. Love you, Erick. 🎉

I’m grateful for the relationships this work has brought into my life. 💛
Some great conversation, lots of laughter, and time spent with Betzy and our friend Deana at one of our favorite local spots, The Armory, made for a wonderful morning.
A little brainstorming, some leadership and talent development conversations, and plenty of connection along the way. ✨

As we focus on Effective Communication this month, I wanted to share a simple reminder that came to mind after Say Something Nice Day.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that communication isn’t always about having the perfect message or saying more. Often, it’s about being intentional with the words we choose.
A genuine compliment, a sincere thank you, or a few words of encouragement can have a bigger impact than we realize.
This is especially true when providing feedback. When people feel seen, valued, and appreciated for what they’re doing well, they’re often more open to hearing suggestions for growth and improvement. Starting with what you appreciate isn’t about avoiding difficult conversations—it’s about creating a foundation of trust and respect.
As leaders, managers, coworkers, friends, and family members, we all have opportunities every day to use our words to build confidence, connection, and stronger relationships.
Who is someone you’d like to encourage today? 💛

A little behind-the-scenes look at how I spend some of my time. 😊
Part of serving teams well is continuing to learn, grow, and stay curious.
I’m always exploring new ideas, tools, and approaches that help leaders communicate more effectively, build stronger relationships, and create healthy workplace cultures.
As we focus on Effective Communication this month, I’m reminded that our strengths influence how we communicate, listen, process information, and connect with others. What comes naturally to one person may be very different for someone else, and that’s not a weakness, it’s an opportunity for understanding.
When teams better understand their own strengths and appreciate the strengths of others, communication becomes more effective, collaboration improves, and relationships grow stronger. 💛
That’s why I continue investing time in learning and development, so I can better support the leaders, managers, and teams I have the privilege of working with every day.
