What colors do you associate with Jazzfest in New Orleans? Trying to finish up a painted lampshade, and kinda at a stopping place because of that.

Another shot taken at Grapefest in front of Willhoite’s, the best bar and grill I’ve ever been to…. and, coming from New Orleans, I’ve been to a lot. The Model T over the salad bar hints at its’ origins as an early gas station. Located on Main St. in Grapevine, TX.

My son, Camden. Sprouting some wolfian hair. Also pictured, a pencil drawing of a photo of me at the same age, passed out on the steps of our apartment building, which consisted of 4 separate apartments and a condemned unit out back. It housed just us Trinity University students with big dogs and Harleys. We called it ‘The Ghetto’.

Ken and Railee, two of my most very favorite people on this earth. Such a complete joy having them while vacationing from Uzbekistan, and can’t wait for next uear

This does my heart so good. I feel that Shirley is happy with me having her kids here while they’re back here in the states on vacation. Found the first one the morning after Ken and Railee arrived. They’re due to fly back to Uzbekistan tomorrow, and now found a second. I love her and Ken’s kids like my own, and am going to miss them horribly…

I learned to love folk art because of my ex and MIL, Judy Culbertson. I love the whole unconventional canvas and particular sayings and formats. Howard Finster has ‘Lord Love You’. Reverend Bob, from my hometown of New Orleans, had ‘Be Nice Or Leave’. And so many more.
I consider my pieces firmly in the folk art traditions that I came to love. Unconventional canvas. Religious ferver and mental illness are common amongst the ones I love. Missionary Mary Proctor. Jimmy Lee Suddeth. Clementine Hunter. Al Tapist (another NOLA artist. Purvis Young. Ab the Flagman….and on and on. I love the unconventionality they brought to art, and has made me a huge fan and collector of their works. Doing final tweaks on the first of a second series of ten. First sold out quickly. Going a bit more in depth now. It’s a takeoff of Pooh Bear and the Grateful Dead Dancing Bears iconography, with a line I wrote a few years back. I think the message those two create is perfectly represented here.
Doing final tweaks on this first one. The other 9 original paintings will each be different. Prints will be available as well. You can DM me if interested in purchasing one of the original paintings in this new series.
