Heard from someone this week that I'd retired! NOPE still out here delivering precious babies but only 4 a month!!

Sometimes baby’s fly out and we are lucky to make it in time. Other times we have to pull out all of our midwife tricks and it’s so exciting when they work! This mama worked so hard and so long for her sweet baby and this picture captures how well worth it all of it was 😍

Breastfeeding and rooming in protects against sudden infant death. The whey protein in human milk is easy to digest compared to the high caesin content of cow's milk formula. It also contains immune factors that directly target and protect against infections of the upper airway and lungs. Babies who sleep in close contact unconsciously repsond to the smell and touch of their caregiver, they share their sleep cycles, and don't enter that deep sleep associated with SIDS as readily.

The Born in Bradford study showed the lowest rates of SIDS in families who didn't smoke, drink alcohol, didn't move their babies to separate rooms, and continued to breastfeed.

You may be told that by 6 months a baby should be in their own room and sleeping through the night, but this is very much NOT what the scientific evidence shows. Many babies (and parents!) are simply not ready for that night time separation either.
