A Little Glimpse Into Yesterday’s Clinic ❤️

Hola, this is Esther🤗. I’m not very good at posting everything we do because most days in ministry don’t come with dramatic stories. Instead, they are filled with ordinary moments—serving, listening, caring, and showing up.

As missionaries, we know we may never fully see the impact of every seed planted. But nothing done in love is ever wasted.

Sometimes God allows us to see the fruit through a smile, a grateful family, or a village that welcomes us back year after year. Those moments remind us that He is working, even when the results aren’t immediately visible.

If you’d like to hear more of the stories behind the ministry, be sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter. In fact, our June newsletter is already in your inbox if you haven’t had a chance to open and read it yet! 😊

Thank you for praying, encouraging, and partnering with us as we continue serving the communities God has placed before us. ❤️

Thank You for Praying! – El Pasaco Update

Our team left around 6:00 this morning and, after more than 5 hours on the road, finally arrived in El Pasaco. They are now up and running and ministering to the community!

The journey has been much slower than expected due to heavy traffic, and there were long stretches where traffic barely moved at all. The river was still high when they arrived, but by God’s grace they were able to cross safely. The attached video shows the conditions they encountered.

Please continue to pray for the team as they minister today. They still have a long day ahead of them, and the trip home is also a concern since afternoon rains can quickly cause water levels to rise again.

Thank you to everyone who has been praying. Your prayer covering means so much to our team and to the communities we serve. ❤️🙏

Rising Rivers and Landslides

Tomorrow we are scheduled to serve in Pasaco, Pastor Danny’s community. We are in the middle of Guatemala’s rainy season, and heavy rains have caused rivers to rise and landslides to become a common sight along many roads.

Jeff and I drove to Antigua this afternoon to return our rental car. Praise God, both the ministry truck and SUV are finally back from the mechanic after what has been a long year of repairs and return visits to the shop. More times than we can count, we thought a problem had been resolved, only to have another issue appear or discover that the original repair was not completely fixed. Along the way, we passed several recent landslides, a reminder of how quickly conditions can change this time of year.

The river shown in this video was filmed yesterday. It is one of the rivers we must cross to reach the community. Pastor Danny said the water level has gone down today, but with more rain expected overnight, conditions could change quickly by morning.

The challenge is that we must leave home no later than 6:00 a.m. to arrive by 9:00 a.m., and often we do not know whether the roads and river crossings are safe until we get there. Sometimes we are able to make it through without a problem. Other times we have driven for hours only to discover the river is too high and have had to turn around and come home.

What makes the decision even harder is that crossing the river in the morning does not guarantee we will be able to cross it again in the afternoon. A few hours of heavy rain can cause the water to rise quickly, so we must consider not only how to reach the community, but also how to get our team home safely at the end of the day.

We never want to cancel a mobile clinic if there is a safe way to reach the people who are counting on us. At the same time, we have a responsibility to protect our team and be wise stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. A round trip to this community is at least six hours of driving, and fuel in Guatemala currently costs around $5–$6 per gallon, so once we leave, turning around is never a simple decision.

Please pray that God will give us wisdom and clear direction before we leave in the morning. Pray that the roads remain open, the river stays passable, our vehicles continue running well, and that nothing will prevent us from serving the families who need medical care, encouragement, and the love of Christ.

Thank you for standing with us in prayer. ❤️🙏

Meeting some brave ladies today. This is Doña María. At 78 years old, she lives alone and still spends her days working in the fields.

Rachel shared with us that Doña María experienced a heartbreaking loss when her husband passed away 12 years ago. Since then, life has not been easy, yet she continues to move forward with remarkable faith, strength, and grace.

Yesterday, members of our team had the privilege of spending time with her, listening to her story, and praying with her. Stories like hers remind us that behind every smile is a journey we may never fully understand, and that some of the strongest people we meet are carrying burdens most of us can hardly imagine.

Please join us in praying for Doña María and for the many hardworking women in Guatemala who faithfully persevere through difficult circumstances every day.

We usually go out to the villages as a group on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays — three days a week. Shawn, Julio, and Rachel also visit pastors and work with the children and children’s ministry leaders on Thursdays.

We were so excited for Dad and our new intern, Natalie, to join us this past Wednesday. It was a 12-hour day from the time we opened our eyes until we stepped back into our house — especially tough since we had just flown back from the States and arrived home at 9:00 a.m. the day before! 😅😊

Sadly, after Wednesday, our ministry truck broke down, and we weren’t able to continue our outreach for the rest of last week.

The truck is still having issues, but we simply couldn’t keep canceling our mobile clinics. After Jeff talked with our mechanic, he gave his best professional opinion that if today’s village wasn’t too far and the team watched carefully for warning signs, they should be okay to use it for one more day.

So we took a leap of faith and sent the team out for today’s outreach in Patrocinio while Jeff worked on dealing with our broken SUV. Dad needed to stay back and rest because of his leg pain, and I’ve been struggling with an excruciating toothache.

Thank God — the team had a great day, and they made it home safely with the truck!

Here are some pictures from this past Wednesday. Dad and Natalie were both a big help, and Dad especially couldn’t stop talking about the experience afterward. Maybe I’ll do a little interview with him before he leaves so he can share with you all as well. He’ll be with us for one more week 😇

!!!URGENT PRAYER REQUEST!!! 🙏🙏🙏

Please pray for reliable transportation for the ministry. Both our truck and SUV have been to the mechanic many times since last year, yet both continue to have ongoing problems. The truck was back in the shop again yesterday and is currently out of service. Although our mechanic’s computer indicated a possible transmission issue, he was unable to diagnose it further. We need someone with the expertise to properly identify the problem and determine what repairs may be needed.

This week alone, we had to cancel outreach at the last minute twice—once this past Monday when we had to replace the brakes for the second time this year, along with a filter replacement, costing $400 total, and again today because of these continuing mechanical issues. Without our truck, we are unable to reach the villages, especially for our mobile clinics. We had already outgrown our transportation capacity and were in need of a second truck even before these ongoing issues began.

We have truly worked this truck to its limit, using it exactly for the purpose it was meant for as we travel countless miles to serve remote communities.

Please pray for God’s intervention and provision—for wisdom to diagnose the problem, the right people to help, affordable repairs or replacement if needed, and dependable transportation so we can continue reaching those who are counting on these medical outreaches. Thank you so much! 🙏🙏🙏
