Buc-ee’s opening week is underway in Goodyear.

As visitors continue arriving from across Arizona and beyond, we’re reminding everyone to stay hydrated, take breaks indoors when possible, and watch for the warning signs of heat-related illness.

Arizona heat can affect anyone, and a little preparation can help make your visit safer and more enjoyable.

We hope everyone has a safe opening week. If you are visiting, where did you travel from?

Know Before You Go.

As Buc-ee’s opening week approaches, we want visitors and residents alike to be prepared for Arizona’s summer heat.

Large crowds and extended periods outdoors can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those who may not be accustomed to Arizona temperatures. The good news is that many heat-related illnesses can be prevented through preparation and early recognition of symptoms.

Before you visit, take a moment to review the three graphics in this post:

• Stay hydrated by drinking water throughout the day.
• Come prepared for the heat by wearing lightweight clothing and planning cooling breaks.
• Know the warning signs, including headaches, dizziness, nausea, and heavy sweating.

A little preparation can help make your visit safer and more enjoyable.

Stay hydrated. Prepare for the heat. Know the warning signs. Enjoy opening week safely.

Today we celebrate the fathers and father figures who help shape our community.

Father's Day is an opportunity to recognize the dads, stepfathers, grandfathers, guardians, mentors, and role models who support, guide, and inspire others through their actions and example.

Whether at home, at work, or in the community, fathers and father figures play an important role in teaching values, building strong families, and helping future generations succeed. Their influence often extends far beyond a single day and can leave a lasting impact for years to come.

We also recognize the many fathers within our department who balance serving the community while being present for their families whenever they can.

From all of us at Goodyear Fire, thank you to the fathers and father figures who lead with kindness, strength, and dedication. We wish you a safe and happy Father's Day.

A quick check-in can make a big difference.

As Arizona temperatures continue to rise, it's important to remember that heat safety is not just about protecting yourself. It's also about looking out for family members, friends, neighbors, and others who may be spending time outdoors.

Children, older adults, and those exposed to the heat for extended periods can be more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Something as simple as offering water, finding shade, or encouraging someone to take a break can help prevent a minor issue from becoming a serious one.

We encourage everyone to watch out for one another and make heat safety a shared responsibility this summer.

Who are you looking forward to spending time with this summer?

Be prepared. Stay safe.

Today we recognize Juneteenth.

Observed each year on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and serves as an opportunity to reflect on an important chapter in our nation's history.

It is a day to honor the resilience and contributions of those whose struggles helped shape the freedoms we enjoy today, while also recognizing the importance of learning from the past and continuing to build strong, connected communities.

As members of the Goodyear community, we recognize the value of understanding our shared history, treating one another with respect, and working together toward a better future.

Today, we reflect, remember, and reaffirm our commitment to serving every member of our community.

Knowing the warning signs is an important part of staying safe during Arizona's summer heat.

Heat-related illnesses often begin with symptoms that can be easy to overlook. Headaches, dizziness, nausea, and heavy sweating may be signs that your body is having trouble keeping up with the heat.

Recognizing these warning signs early and taking steps to cool down, rest, and rehydrate can help prevent more serious heat-related emergencies.

As temperatures continue to rise, we encourage everyone to pay attention to how they feel and to check on those around them. A little awareness can go a long way in helping keep family, friends, and neighbors safe.

Be prepared. Stay safe.

Day 2 of Camp F.I.R.E.S. brought another day of hands-on learning, teamwork, and challenges.

Today, campers put their skills to the test through search and rescue scenarios, save-your-own training, and a skills course designed to build confidence, problem-solving, and teamwork.

From learning new techniques to pushing themselves outside their comfort zones, these young women continue to demonstrate determination, resilience, and a willingness to take on new challenges.

We’re looking forward to another great day tomorrow as Camp F.I.R.E.S. continues.

Fireworks Safety Reminder!

Stop by the Goodyear Library and pick up fireworks safety information before your celebration.

Did you know a sparkler can reach temperatures of up to 1,200°F—hot enough to melt glass?

While sparklers may seem harmless, they can cause serious burns, especially to children.

For a safer alternative, choose glow sticks instead of a burning rod.

When you're done with fireworks, place all used fireworks and sparklers in a bucket full of water and let them soak overnight. This helps ensure they are completely extinguished before disposal.

Let's make this a fun and burn-free holiday season!

Prepared for whatever comes next.

Whether the day is busy or quiet, our crews remain ready to respond when the community needs us. While emergency calls are a significant part of what we do, readiness is built long before the tones go off.

Between calls, firefighters spend time training, checking equipment, participating in public education programs, and connecting with the community. These daily efforts help ensure we're prepared to respond safely and effectively when emergencies occur.

Serving the City of Goodyear is something we take great pride in. No matter the assignment, our commitment remains the same: being ready to answer the call and protect the community we serve.

We're proud to stand ready for whatever comes next.
