The L.A.B Basketball
Youth Basketball
Mentorship & Development WE MAKE ATHLETES BETTER ATHLETES & BETTER PEOPLE! We look forward to helping your athlete reach their full potential.
The goal of The Leaders, Athletes, and Believers program (The L.A.B) is to prepare student-athletes by focusing on the fundamental skills of basketball and life skills-based upon the developmentally appropriate programs that we provide. The LAB is the place to be, we challenge each athlete according to their skill level and provide an environment that promotes growth, teamwork, and competition.
Tip: Offense
If the ball is deflected out of your hands you will have the freedom to attempt to dribble again after regaining possession of the ball along with pulling the ball back out and setting back up your offense.
I like the other concepts of communication and triple threat and rip-through after the recovery of the ball.
Keep working! Keep getting better!
Tip: Defense
Do not begin too close or too far away from the offense.
If you are too close, they will drive by you. ( This is what happens here in this clip. Also, help defense can result in a tuff shot for the offense.)
If you are too far, they will shoot.
The best thing is to begin at least an arm's length away.
It is appropriate to reach out to your defender if you are not sure whether you are far enough away.
Pe*******on reaction concepts:
Tip: Guards drive into the heart of the paint so the defense will collapse then kick out to open player on the wing then the defense will attempt to recover. This will provide an opportunity for an open shot or the player on the wing get an opportunity to attack if the defense recovers for even a better shot.
Questions to ask players to better understand the game at a young age.
What things can I do in a triple threat position?
1. Shoot
2. Pass
3. Dribble
Children better understand the game and apply these concepts more easily when they can answer the questions themselves.
Give them the opportunity to answer those questions, it makes them better students on the court and off the court. Keep them motivated to understand the why?
Mentorship is important to us at The L.A.B. We're partnering with the S.C.O.R.E. Program as a means to instill confidence in our student-athletes so that they are successful on and off the court.
