Started as a small social group of Vizsla Families in 2008, SBVLG/R has grown exponentially. Now a large group, we socialize, offer educational forums and events, have group hikes, enjoy "Vizsla Fests", and provide friendship and guidance for new Vowners or those who may be experiencing difficulties with the Vizsla-Family bond--and we have much VFUN! Santa Barbara Vizsla Rescue is on this case with Mona and the owner and we are working to secure a soft landing for these two nice dogs, neutered and trained. If you are in CA and have experience with Vizslas and a securely fenced yard and can help with foster next week please contact us here or call RC Christine at 805-680-6524. We can transport and fosters have first option to adopt.

Courtesy post: this senior deserves a loving home and a real chance to settle into a loving home. His grouchiness at night may be arthritic pain as shared by the shelter. If he’s like my senior, he would appreciate some gabapentin or Librela to ease his discomfort and let all his wonderful traits shine. Let’s help him get a loving home that will stick.

❤️❤️PENNY Has Been Adopted

PLEASE OPEN YOUR HOME AND HEART TO PENNY THE VIZSLA! ❤️ 🐾

Meet Super Senior Penny with the energy and joy of a much younger dog. All humans, children, dogs are friends in Penny’s eyes and she has not let her unfortunate past stop her optimism for the future. Penny will be 10 in April; she lost her bonded Vizsla friend to cancer, then her human dad was also diagnosed and became allergic to Penny. Due to this tragedy, sweet sociable Penny spent the last couple of years in a pen outside 24/7 with no walks, no play, and heavy construction noise next door. She developed an ear infection which went untreated. Penny’s fortune changed last week when she came to us in a soft landing with her wonderful foster who has lovingly guided her through a thorough medical exam and ear treatment routine. Penny has blossomed into the most wonderful girl who will be a positive addition to any home. Here are her foster’s observations:

Penny is super-sweet and loves pets from people. She is also good with kids and dogs. I have not witnessed any moments of aggression. She has had some anxiety in the evenings, manifested by panting and mouthing blankets, pillows and stuffy toys to pacify but this is improving daily. She loves to play, sleep on the sofa or bed and have cuddles. She is having fun and is bringing out puppy energy in the house and the park. Being around my boys (two dogs) has been good for her. She appears more like 5-6 years old.

At our neighborhood park, she has loved getting attention from all the dog parents and running around with the well-behaved dogs. She seems great with puppies, large dogs and small dogs. She loves to explore, chase scents and run free. She is strong with commands and recall. All in all, she is a good girl and would fit well with a home with or without other dogs and I think she would be good in a home with older kids (maybe 6 yo or up). I think she’ll be a good fit for an individual or family that has time for a true Velcro Vizsla.

Penny has had a thorough vet check and is in good health. She is up to date on vaccines. She will be spayed prior to adoption. She is being treated for her ear infection, is easy to handle and feeling better with the treatment. Her new home will need to continue with periodic inexpensive care to her ears; her hearing appears fine. Please email [email protected] or call Rescue Coordinator Christine at 805-680-6524 if you can offer Penny the future she deserves!

Cute Vizsla mixes. Apply directly to shelter.

“California” Vizsla mixed puppies looking for a home!

What makes them Californian?
Well, they are beach blonde! 😂

We don’t see this breed very often, but we did see mama and she was a Vizsla! (Papa is a mystery.) Their tails were docked prior to arrival here at the shelter. These girls are a little on the shy side and need some assistance learning that the world is not scary!
