Mu Delta
A professional fraternity for Pre-Medical students at UCSB The Mu Delta Premedical Fraternity got its start on May 25th, 2011. Their goals were simple:
1.)
The founding fathers set out to establish a brotherhood of the brightest minds at UCSB who wished to pursue careers in medicine. To establish a brotherhood among men who wish to become medical doctors, and who are devoted to the institutions of higher learning.
2.) To promote leadership, excellence, service, and ethics that extend throughout the lives of the members of this fraternity and into their communities.

To kick off our last Future Doctor of the quarter, we want to recognize our very own Nick De Leon! Nick is a 3rd-year biology major and applied psych minor from North Hollywood, who has his sights set on a future in ophthalmology. In his free time, you can find Nick in the gym, hooping, or at the beach/park with his boys, turning on some tunes and getting groovy. Nick is the type of guy to travel purely to try a new food spot, reflecting his commitment to go the extra mile (literally) for the things he cares about. Nick demonstrates an impressive dedication to his community, serving as UCSB’s No Empty Seat’s Co-President (a su***de prevention/mental health awareness organization), is one of the lead volunteers at Project Vision UCSB, and is a research assistant in the MCDB department. He also volunteers at Doctors Without Walls (a street medicine program based in the Santa Barbara area) and works as an Optometric Tech. Nick also has previously served as our recruitment chair. When asked about his favorite memory in the fraternity, he said: “Every recruitment week, as it was an opportunity for both current members and incoming members to build long-lasting friendships and shoulders to lean on”. Beyond his stacked resume, he’s just a joyful, sweet guy who brings the vibe to every room he walks into. Nick wanted to give shoutouts to his friends, family from LA, to Santa Barbara, to the Bay, to the Philippines, and especially shout out his momma. We’re all proud of the things you accomplished and know you’re going to do incredible things in the future, Nick! 👁️ 🩺

For this week’s Future Doctor of the Week, we want to recognize Mikey Attia! A senior biology major from Orange County, Mikey aims to attend medical school and eventually specialize in trauma care.
In his free time, Mikey can be found getting absolutely baptized by Brian in spikeball or getting IQ mogged by Xagros. When he isn’t putting the fries in the bag working at In-N-Out, he’s usually playing CSGO or reminiscing about how he definitely would have gone D1 in volleyball if it weren’t for his knee.
Mikey also has previously served as our social chair, providing the fraternity with a great time. Looking back on his years, Mikey’s favorite memory was sitting on the balcony for hours after a senior send-off, watching the sunset while sharing old stories.
After graduation, Mikey plans to head back to his hometown for a gap year while studying for the MCAT. Also, Mikey wanted to shout out his family because without them, he wouldn’t be here, as well as the entire senior class because they’re some of the best guys he’s ever met. Overall, Mikey is someone the entire fraternity looks up to and loves having around (and is the only active member I know to have memorized the Super Cucas menu by heart). We wish you the best of luck in the future, Mikey! 🫶

Our future doctor of the week continues with Vincent Castrejon!
Vincent is a first-year biology major and our current brotherhood chair. He plans on attending medical school after graduation, and aims towards a career in anesthesiology. When he isn’t studying or rinsing Carrillo, he stays busy by working as a little league umpire, handling his responsibilities as the brotherhood chair, and playing on our intramural soccer team. Vincent is known for being a reliable member who looks out for the rest of the guys in the fraternity.
You can also catch Vincent regularly at the gym or going on beach runs. He’s one of the strongest people in the fraternity and is willing to take on anyone, and I mean anyone, in a pushup contest. His favorite memory with the chapter so far was our recent brotherhood trip to Big Bear, where he was able to hike and bond with his brothers. Vincent is a great example of a member who displays admirable leadership qualities while being just a genuinely fun dude to hang out with. We wouldn’t know what we’d do without him!

For our Future Doctor of the Week, we want to recognize Matthew Joaquin, a senior and biology major from Camarillo! Matt has been a huge part of the fraternity for a while, having previously served as both our President and Brotherhood chair. On campus, he stays busy serving our community with Doctors Without Walls and No Empty Seats UCSB.
When he can catch a break from school or work, you can find Matt fishing, reading, or catching up on movies. After graduation, he plans on staying in the Santa Barbara area to keep working while studying for the MCAT. When Matt was asked about his favorite memories during his time in the fraternity, he said: “The constant opportunities to meet and become friends with a new group of guys every single quarter.”
He wanted to give a shoutout to his parents and mentors in the fraternity who have kept him motivated over the years. We’re all lucky to have him as a brother, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors!

This week’s Future Doctor of the Week goes to Craig! A Santa Barbara local and a 2nd-year Biology major, Craig currently serves on our executive council as the chapter’s Treasurer. Managing the house budget is a demanding job, but Craig is easily one of the most laid-back guys in the fraternity.
When he isn’t handling house finances or studying, you can find him on the slopes skiing or mountain biking. He is also heavily involved as a counselor for Camp Med and is working toward a career as an orthopedic surgeon. His favorite memory with the house so far was our most recent trip to Big Bear, which is a sentiment shared by a lot of the guys. Craig is a great example of someone who can balance a the tough pre-med track and a leadership position while still being a reliable friend to everyone in the house. We’re all ecstatic to have him in the brotherhood!
